Hurricane Irene : Update

Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing well and were unaffected by Hurricane Irene. Unfortunately I was right in the middle of her path and have no power at home since Saturday night. That means that until it's back you won't see any substantive updates from me. So sorry! It could be worse, everyone is safe and no damage has been done so it's all good.

Crackle Glaze: Platinum Pieces over China Glaze Snow

Hi everyone!!! Today I have another look utilizing crackle polish. It's still not my favorite trend but I do like how white and silver look.  I did a look similar to this before, but this time I used silver crackle glaze and white on the bottom, last time it was reverse.

For this look I used China Glaze Snow as my base (2 coats) and one coat of Crackle Glaze in Platinum Pieces.  I like the crackle glaze and think it cracks well. I love that they made metallic crackles, I think they are fun. This one is super shimmery and really pretty. It's a light platinum silver color.  I think it looks awesome over the white creme.  It cracked in a nice pattern very quickly. It applied well, it was not too thick or quick drying like some crackles are. Also, it was opaque enough so you didn't feel like one coat was going to look bad, it covered all the white and then cracked well.

Crackle still isn't really my thing but I know it's big right now so I can't discriminate.

So what do you think? Love it our hate it?

OPI: Honk if You Love OPI (Touring America Collection)

Hi everyone! Today I have another great color from OPI's Touring America collection to share with you.  This is Honk if You Love OPI which OPI describes as a dark grape.  It's a super vampy dark eggplant colored creme.  It's rich and so pretty when you want something dark but not black. I guess I can see where OPI got grape from, it's like a rich dark grape jelly color. Yum! LOL.

The formula on this required three coats for the opacity pictured.  I did have issues with some balding, particularly on my pink and ring finger. One of you once asked me what I meant by balding which was actually harder to explain than I thought, but I think you'll be able to see what  I mean in the photos.  It's no big deal and tends to happen sometimes when a color is dark but on the thin side.  If I was more careful with application it may not have happened.

I really like this one. I love the color and I think it'd be flattering on a ton of different skintones.

See, this is what I mean by balding, look closely at the ring and pinky fingers:

What do you think? Hit or miss? Let me know in the comments :-) Thanks so much for reading.

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink: OPI: My Address is "Hollywood" (Touring America Fall 2011)

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by and reading the blog today! A quick note: I love love love getting comments from you and I do my very best to respond to all comments left. Right now Intense Debate, the commenting system I use, is not notifying me of my new comments! So I am doing my best to check in periodically to insure I see new ones but please don't think  I am ignoring you if I do not respond right away!

It's another Pink Wednesday and I have a really really pretty one to share with you all today!  This is another color from the OPI Fall Touring America collection called My Address is "Hollywood". This is a coral toned light pink with the most subtle micro shimmer.   Like the other pinks and corals in this collection this color, to me, is perfection.  I am usually so picky with these tones but all three of the pinks/corals in this collection turned out to work on me and I really love them so much!  I just love the micro shimmer in this. I think it adds interest and makes it stand out in my collection.

The formula on this one is lovely. I did use three coats for the opacity shown but I do think two was fine.  I have been on a three coat kick lately if you haven't noticed ;-). I had no issues with streaking or balding at all and I found that this color went on smoothly and dried quickly.

As always, be sure to click on the photos to enlarge them, doing this will help you see the subtle shimmer.

Are you loving the pinks/corals in this collection as much as I am? As a reminder this collection contained I Eat Mainely Lobster and Are We There Yet?

Color Club: Voodoo You Do (Back to Boho Collection)

Hi everyone! I hope you're having a great day! Today I have a color from Color Club's Back to Boho fall collection to share with you.  This color is called Voodoo You Do and it's a frosty charcoal gray color with some bluish green undertones. It reminds me of peacock feathers a bit.  The color is really pretty and fairly unique to me.  I love that when the light hits it it looks blue/green. Very nice touch.

While the formula is frosty I didn't have much trouble with brush strokes making a mess. You'll see in the photos that the application was pretty smooth for a frost.

I did use three coats for the opacity shown. I do think you could get away with two on this one but I found that three coats just looked a bit cleaner in the end.

As always click on the photos for a closer view:

What do you think of Voodoo You Do? Is it a winner for you or something you plan to skip?

I find Color Club to be a great brand for the price but sometimes difficult to find. I have only a fee beauty supplies around that sell the brand so I mostly find myself having to get Color Club from an etailer.  Have you had luck finding color club near you?

OPI: Are We There Yet? (Touring America Collection)

It's another beautiful day here in Connecticut.  We have some pretty fun plans for the day. We're going to go hiking with Steve's brother, sister-in-law and our godson.  It's the best weather for it too so we're excited. Then we have dinner at my parent's house. My mom is making a really awesome dinner, seven layer salad, steak, mushrooms, red velvet cake! Yummmmm!!!!!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend as well!

Today I have another gorgeous color from the OPI Touring America collection.  This one is Are We There Yet? which is a gorgeous cantaloupe shade with the most subtle microshimmer.  It looks like a plain ol' creme, but in the sunlight you can see the itty bitty shimmer particles which add interest to it.  This collection has made me so happy with the coral type shades.  Those colors never usually work on me but both this and I Eat Mainely Lobster really work with my skin tone which puts a smile on my face!!!  I am really loving this color and I think almost anyone can pull it off.

The formula on this was a pleasure to work with. I had no issued and used three coats for the opacity shown.  I had no trouble with brush strokes at all it went on smoothly and evenly.

Be sure to click on the photos for a closer look.  The photos will be larger and you'll be able to see the subtle shimmer:

So what do you think of this one? It's a winner in my book. I really love it!

Zoya: Faye, OPI: Show it and Glow it and Britney Spears!!!

Hi everyone!! I am so glad it's Friday and it's absolutely gorgeous out here! I love this weather, not too hot, not too cool, just right. Reminds me that fall is coming.  I had a good week this week, I went to see Britney Spears on Tuesday! It was a great show and we had amazing seats:

See!! She was so close! It was awesome!

Anyway, on to the polish.  I wore Zoya's Faye to the show, topped with OPI's Show it and Glow it on top, I think the two went well together. What do you think?

Zoya describes Faye as "
A bronzed mauve with purple and brown undertones flooded with bright gold sparkle." I think that's right on. It's like a raisin color with tons of that awesome gold shimmer. I think it would look amazing with a nice summer tan or on really dark skin tones.

I used three coats for the opacity shown and I think three was necessary. Two was opaque enough to get by but three did the trick for this one.  The formula was metallic but not streaky.  I had no trouble with application and this one wore really well for days.

For the concert I wanted to kind of bling it out a little so I added two coats of OPI's Show it and Glow it which is a fushia, blue, silver and yellow glitter.  The photo of this doesn't really do it justice but it looked really nice on.  I love glitter, it's a pain in the ass to remove, even with the foil method, but it's worth it sometimes to add some life to a stale manicure.

As always thanks for reading and have a wonderful weekend where ever you are!!!
