New Year's Tag 2012

As 2012 comes to an end I thought I would do a TAG I saw somewhere. Feel free to join in and post links to your answers in the comments below. Happy New Year!!

_________________________

What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?  In 2012 I went on my first cruise! Steve and I went on a 7 night cruise from New Jersey to Bermuda. I had never cruised before and I also never saw a beach that wasn't in the northern U.S. I absolutely adored Bermuda, and cruising, and hope we can go again really soon!  On this vacation I also snorkeled for the first time, once I got over the initial fear I really enjoyed it!

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I never make any true new years resolutions.

Did anyone close to you give birth? A few of my friends did but no one in my family. 2012 seemed to be the year of the Disney Bride Baby; Lots of my fellow Disney Brides, who have become true friends, gave birth this year.

Did anyone close to you die? Yes, sadly my Aunt Pixie passed away on February 5, 2012.

She was an amazing person with a big personality and infectious laugh. She always put others first and never forgot a birthday or special occasion.  I miss her cards, birthday phone calls and texts. I regret not spending more time with her while she was hear but know that the time I spent with her was always fantastic.

She struggled with Ovarian Cancer for many years but fought so hard to hold on as long as she did. She's truly unforgettable and I am thankful to have had her in my life.

What countries did you visit? As mentioned above, we went to Bermuda this year!

What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012? I would like to have more of a passion for my career as an attorney. I think I will find it this year since I am coming into my own at my new job (that I got in November). I would like to be professionally fulfilled and not just working to earn a living.

What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory? February 5, 2012, the day my aunt passed away will always stand out. August 22, 2012 the day we arrived in Bermuda is always a stand out because it was just so beautiful.

What was your biggest failure?  I think I failed the most this year at working out regularly. I was attending "boot camp" which I enjoyed, but never made it there consistently.

Did you suffer illness or injury? I have asthma but this year it has been getting better. No real injuries to report, thankfully.

What was the best thing you bought? That would have to be my new Canon Rebel T3, it's my first DSLR and I am loving the quality of the photos.

See? Amazing photo quality, no? This is my brother in law Phil with his son, my nephew, PJ.

What did you get really, really, really excited about? Vacation. It was the biggest vacation I have ever been on.

What song will always remind you of 2012? The Wanted Glad You Came, I don't particularly love or hate this song but it was always on so...

Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder?  Happier
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter LOL
c) richer or poorer? Richer I guess...

What do you wish you'd done more of? Working out. I wish I rode my bike. I got an awesome bike for my birthday from my husband, but since he doesn't have one I never rode it. It makes me so mad because I was so excited about the bike and didn't really get to use it. I am going to buy Steve and bike this year so we can ride together.

What do you wish you'd done less of? Complaining. I am a HUGE complainer. I can't stop. I am working on it but just when I think it's under control I start complaining again.

How will you be spending New Years? This year we are torn between a party at a friend's house or a party with different friends at a local restaurant/bar. Either way Steve and I will be together.

What was your favorite TV program? This is a tough one it's a true tie between the following: Game of Thrones,  The Walking Dead and Sons of Anarchy.

What was the best book you read? This is another tough one because I read a lot. I really enjoyed Gone Girl by Gilian Flynn. I also loved The Night Circus by Emily Mortengenson.

What was your greatest musical discovery? I don't listen to much music.

What did you want and get?  A new job. Glad I got one.

What did you want and not get? A ton of money LOL

What was your favorite film of this year? I really enjoyed 21 Jump Street, I didn't think I would but I did. What a silly movie to be considered a favorite film but it was good.  I also really enjoyed The Avengers. I wish I had something more artsy to recommend.

What did you do on your birthday? Worked. Did cake with the family. Same ol'.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? If I got rich!!!

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012: Nonexistent. LOL I am not the best at putting together trendy, fashionable outfits. I wear mostly clothes from The Limited and mostly suits to work.

What kept you sane? My wonderful, supportive, caring, handsome husband Steve.

Who did you miss? My aunt. My friends who live far. Steve's family in Orlando and Vermont.

Who was the best new person you met? I would say all of my new co-workers are fantastic additions to my life. They make work more fun and are a supportive group.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012: I learned that no matter how many people love you and surround you at your final moments we are all alone in the end. Watching my aunt fade away was heartbreaking and eye opening for me. She was surrounded with love, there were amazing people by her side, but in the end I am not sure she knew. It's so sad.

Was 2012 a good year for you? Why? Yes, it was fine. Not the best year of all time but I got a new job, made great memories with my family and friends and am still breathing.

What was your favorite moment of the year? I think lots of the time I spend with my nephew/godson PJ contains my favorite moments.

PJ was in love with fireworks this year. "Fireworks are cool!" because his summertime tag line (he turned 2 in June). Seeing his face light up when he sees little things like that just warms my heart.

I have enjoyed watching him grow, learn to talk, ride his Power Wheels Tractor (now in second gear!), become even more independent that he was before. I think PJ will continue to capture my heart and be the subject of many amazing memories. I mean come on, he's the cutest kid ever, can't you see?

Where were you when 2012 began? At home. We didn't go out last year.

Where will you be when 2012 ends? Either at our friend's house or at a restaurant/bar with friends.

Did you make any new friends in 2012? Not really.

What was your favorite month of 2012? August because it was vacation time!

If you could go back in time to any moment of 2012 and change something, what would it be? I would have my aunt stay alive and healthy.  I would make sure I spent more time with her.

What are your plans for 2013?  I want to progress in my career. I want to grow my blog and do more than just nail polish reviews.  I am excited to meet my new niece and nephew who are due to make their entrance in April 2013 (TWINS!).  I hope to start saving towards a house and to sell our condo.

Zoya: Piaf and Jacqueline (Lovely Collection Spring 2013)

Today I have two colors from the Zoya Lovely Collection for Spring 2013. But first I must vent:

Now, I have said it before, but find myself saying it a lot more lately, COME ON ZOYA, what is with these names?! Seriously, I am all for unique, but until you have Gina, which is relatively common, can you spare us the PIAF? Seriously, no offense if it's your name but I have never even heard it before. Weird!!! I looked up Piaf and apparently it is French and means "sparrow" and is a famous French singer.

So here she is, Piaf. Piaf is a metallic spring yellow. At first I thought it was ugly but now, looking at my photos of it, I actually sort of like it. It's a really pretty color for spring, it's light and subtle. This reminds me of a little chick at Easter time.

The formula on this is a bit strange. Zoya calls it a metallic but to me, while it looks slightly metallic, it's more just textured. It's like it's got a ton of microshimmers embedded in the color. I think it makes for a pretty cool look.

The formula on this one is on the thick side. It goes on without problems though. I only needed two coats for full opacity, which is always a plus in my book. It dries really really fast, not that it matters when you use Seche Vite, but it's something to be mindful of when applying so it does not goop up on you.

Next up is Jacqueline (a real name!!). This is a really nice, fully opaque creme nude. I love this one!!! I am a sucker for cremes, and nudes, so it's only natural I'd love this one.

This is a really nice and flattering nude, it's a beige/putty colored nude that I think works on a variety of skin tones. It's got no real pink undertones so it doesn't give us pale/olive toned girls lobster hands. This is the perfect wear to work color if you're in a highly conservative office environment.

The formula on this is a dream. I love it. It's the perfect creme consistency. I love cremes that are super shiny and this one fits the bill for me. I only needed two coats for opacity. The first coat was a bit streaky, but as you can see the second just made it perfect, and these photos are without the help of a topcoat so you can see it really applied just beautifully.

So what do you think of these two? I am shocked by how much Piaf grew on me, well, not the name LOL. I love Jacqueline and I think she'll be in my normal rotation of polishes for sure.

Happy New Year to everyone around the World! I hope 2013 is a fantastic year for all of you. I hope to make the blog even better and more fun for all, stay tuned and thanks for making 2012 a great year. Love you all !

Truimph: Turquoise Jewel and Lollipop

Hi everyone! Today I have two polishes to show you from a brand new line of lacquers by Everything Bridal and More. They have just created and are in the process of launching a new line of polishes called Triumph. They sent me two to try out.

First up is Turquoise Jewel (Matte) which is a true turquoise color with tons of pearly micro-shimmer throughout.  It does have a true matte finish but my photos are showing it a bit glosy because I added a top coat. I am not too into mattes, for some reason the feeling of that dry polish surface freaks me out LOL. So I added the top coat and think it makes this one gorgeous. But if you do like matte polishes I assure you this does dry to a true matte finish with no glossiness whatsoever.

I used two coats which gave me full opacity. The formula was typical of a matte polish in that it dried super fast. I had no issues with balding or streaking on this at all.

Sorry for the typo in the first photo. I am too lazy to edit it LOL. My bad!

Next up is Lollipop which is an orange jelly color. It's a well balanced orange in that it's not too red and not too yellow. It's a true jelly finish and requires more than two coats if you want it to be opaque. I love a good jelly, VNL and all, and this one is quite nice. It's got that squishy glass like finish too it. I love the shine on a proper jelly and this one delivers.

Like with any jelly polish you will see your nail line if your nails are semi long. This one isn't to noticeable  maybe on the middle finger, but I only did two coats for the photos.

This last photo is a bit blurry. Sorry!

Overall these are two solid polishes. I have no idea how much they will retail for but I do know they are being put out by Everything Bridal and More. They're good quality and I would like to see the price point/color selection etc.  I will keep my eyes peeled for that information and pass it on when I get it.

Ouidad Deep Treatment

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Mine was great but my poor hubby was sick! I felt so bad for him. He's feeling a bit better now though. As most of you know, I am a HUGE Disney fan. My hubby bought me a Mickey and Minnie Christmas flag and this gorgeous Tinkerbell necklace, it's Sterling Silver and Swarovski Crystal.  He knows me so well! I love it!! What is your favorite present this year?

So let's talk hair today. More specifically, winter hair. If you're like me, this time of year wreaks havoc on your tresses. I love using deep conditioning treatments weekly, or more, in the winter and I have recently had the opportunity to try a great one from Ouidad.

Ouidad specifically markets to curly haired ladies but I think it works for all hair types looking for some moisture.  I think it focuses on curly headed ladies because they sometimes tend to have coarser hair than those with sleek straight hair.  I know my sister, who has thick spiral curls sometimes deals with dryness or excessive tangling.

I have been using this product as a deep conditioning treatment for a few weeks now and I am really enjoying it. It's thick and coats my hair perfectly. I use a wide tooth comb in the shower to comb it though and deal with any tangles. I leave it on the entire time I shower then rinse it out at the end. I find that it is very moisturizing and the wonderful smell of coconut lingers, which I love. It smells AMAZING.

If you're in the market for a high end deep conditioner this is a great one to consider. The price point is high, vs. something like Aussie in the drugstore, but it's quite a nice treat for your hair.

Winter weather can take a toll on your morning commute, your wardrobe and most importantly, your skin and hair.  When a change in degree results in a dry and brittle hair, turn to the Ouidad Deep Treatment.  Lock in moisture all season long with this intensive repair formula that penetrates the hair cuticle and restores hair to its healthy shine.

The Ouidad Deep Treatment was originally designed for use in Ouidad salons to repair dry, damaged hair, but is now available to be experienced at home.  The Deep Treatment is packed with 21 amino acids that rebuild the internal molecular layer, allowing hair to regain its own internal weight and replenish moisture.  Curls will instantly be softer, healthier and more manageable.

12 Minute Deep Treatment Intensive Repair
  • Effectively penetrates hair to bond with the cuticle, leaving hair revived and restructured for enhanced performance
  • Recommended to use every two weeks for six weeks and continuing to use once a month there after

The Ouidad Deep Treatment is available for $25 at Ouidad.com

OPI: You Only Live Twice

Well, it's December 22,  2012 and we all seem to have survived doomsday. Yay us! LOL. So yesterday I featured Die Another Day and today I think it's fitting to show you You Only Live Twice, how awesomely cheesy am I? This is from the Skyfall collection, which may seem endless on my blog since there are just so many polishes in this collection to review. I am reaching the end though, I think!

You Only Live Twice is a really pretty magenta shimmer. It's packed with pink microshimmer and just shines. It's got a beautiful high gloss finish.

I used two coats for the opacity shown. I did not have any issues with the applicaiton, no balding, no streaking, no brush strokes,  and no cuticle pooling. I have said it before but I have to mention it again, this type of finish has come a long way. Gone are the days of horrible streaking on most  good quality shimmers.

Overall this is gorgeous. I can see this on my toes all summer really, it's that kind of pink to me. What do you think?

OPI: Die Another Day

Hi everyone! Today I have a polish with a fitting title, given that some folks think today is doomsday LOL. Happy Apocalypse! This is OPI's Die Another Day  and it's part of the Skyfall Collection.

Die Another Day
is a  shimmery orangy red. It's got a fantastic formula and honestly, I think you only really need one coat. The photos below are just one coat and I don't see any nail line at all. I love when a polish does that! Great job OPI. I had no issues with application at all, this is overall a really fantastic lacquer.

So what do you think of this color? What color are you wearing for the end of the World? LOL Hey, maybe I shouldn't get too cocky, it's only 8:18 AM here...

Last Minute, Easy to Find, Stocking Stuffer Ideas

Hello everyone! I hope you're all doing well and for those who celebrate, I hope you're ready for Christmas. If you're not all done with shopping don't fret, I have a few suggestions for last minute stocking stuffers that should be pretty easy to find. These are a few of my favorite tried and true items and I would love to see any of these in my stocking. This post is not sponsored in any way. I used promotional images from the official websites, I did not take these photos.

First up is CND Solar Oil. This is a fantastic product that works hard to keep your cuticles and nails looking fresh and hydrated in the cold weather.

I use this all times of the year as my go to cuticle oil. After removing a manicure, filing and buffing my nails, I slather this all over my nails and cuticles, rub it in for a minute or two then wash it off. If I am feeling super dry I will put some on and keep it on (just using a little less than I would during a manicure).

This stuff smells divine, like sweet almond oil. It's absolutely beautiful smelling.

You can pick this up at CVS for around $8.00 to $10.00 depending on your location.

Next up is my favorite hand lotion from Bath and Body Works. This is the True Blue Spa Shea Cashmere & Silk Hand Cream.  This retails for around $10 from Bath & Body Works but right now it's going for $6.00 in stores and online.

This is one of the best hand creams I have ever tried. It smells amazing, like vanilla and almond with a touch of sandalwood. It's quite a sexy scent. Be warned though if you're sensitive to strong scents you may not like this. The scent will last through several hand washings and lingers for quite some time. I love that but it may be a turnoff for some of you.

This is one of the only hand creams I can tolerate on my hands. It sinks in quickly and doesn't leave my hands feeling greasy, just insanely moisturized. I love love love the feeling of this cream on my hands and rarely use other hand creams. Nothing has compared to the scent and feeling of this one. It's a real winner in my book.

Next up is the world's greatest quick drying top coat. I cannot live without this in my collection, I just can't. I keep several back ups of it available at all times.

This is a quick drying, high shine top coat that has become a cult favorite though out the years. I have yet to find a top coat to live up to the expectations this has created. It will seriously change your nail polishing life. I swear. It makes giving yourself a manicure so much faster as it cuts down on drying time. The result? Perfect nails in no time flat.

If you haven't tried this, trust me, you need it. It's not a luxury, it's a necessity.

You can find this at CVS, Sally Beauty Supply and a few other similar stores for around $6.99 - $9.99 depending on your location.

Next up is a good old lip smacker lip balm in plain ol' vanilla. I have lip balms that I love more than this one but we're talking last minute stocking stuffers so I wanted to suggest a great product that was easy to find in a snap.  I've seen Lip Smacker products anywhere for CVS and Walmart to my local grocery store.

I love the good old classic  vanilla lip smacker. It's actually a pretty great quality balm to have in your purse. It's super moisturizing, smells and tastes great and only costs around $1.75.  I think this little balm would make anyone happy from your little sister to your mom. Can't beat classic.

And last, but most certianly not least is a stocking stuffer for the reader in your life. I know all of my lovely followers are into beauty but I am sure there are some on your Christmas lists that just are not. Well if they are into books, and I mean books, not Kindles LOL, they will love love love my favorite book marks from "Last Line".

I have mentioned these on my blog before but I just love them and wish more people knew about them. They are the best bookmarks and never fall out. They clip to the side of your page and allow you to mark exactly where you left off last time you read.

I get mine at Barnes and Noble for around $1.99 for a two pack. They come in a variety of fun colors too.  I can never have enough of these lying around!

So that's all I have for you today but I hope it helps you make those stockings a little more full this year.

What are your favorite items to stuff stockings with?

Images are promotional images and were not taken by me. I have not received any of these products for free  they are just things I love and use.  This post is not sponsored in any way.
