New York City Ballet by OPI

Hi everyone! I wanted to give you a quick peek at the New York City Ballet collection by OPI.  This collection includes six new additions to OPI's Soft Shades.  One, Pirouette My Whistle is a glittery top coat, the others are sheer shades which make them wonderful for a conservative work place, or a ballerina!

The collection includes:
  • Barre My Soul: This sheer beige is gorgeous, and that’s the “naked” truth.
  • You Callin' Me a Lyre?: This ascending pink hits all the right notes.
  • Don't Touch My Tutu!: Hands off this wispy white -- it's all mine!
  • Care to Danse?: This lilac is up-to-the-minuet in fashion.
  • My Pointe Exactly: See? This gorgeous sheer gray has been right all along!
  • Pirouette My Whistle: Drink up! This silver sparkle is just what you need.
And here they are in all of their glory. Sorry I couldn't get them all in one collage, so you'll see one of the ones with the topcoat is in the wrong collage, but it was the only way I could fit them.

Each color is three coats. Also, with the top coat I had just one coat on top.

So do you like these soft shades? I do, they are all really classy looking and some are even fun! OPI does sheers so well. I love them!

I am interested in knowing if you would like to see complete reviews of each individual polish from this collection (the format of my regular review posts).  Let me know in the comments and be sure to vote on the poll in the side bar.  I would be happy to do full reviews, I just want to make sure it won't bore you since you have seen the colors here. Thanks!

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink: Duri Cosmetics: Bridal Bells & Daddy's Girl

Happy Hump day! This week is flying by for me.  I am excited because this weekend is the release of The Hunger Games. I cannot wait to see the movie. Who else is excited?! Initial critic reviews are positive, which makes me so happy. I can't wait!

Today is Wednesday and as you know On Wednesdays We Wear Pink! Today I have two pinks to share, both by Duri Cosmetics.

The first pink is Bridal Bells which is a super opaque light, light, light baby pink. This baby is opaque. I really might have gotten away with one coat but I did two. It leans a little white and could appear chalky so be sure to top this with a nice shiny top coat. I like it, I don't love it. These bright whitish light pinks tend not to work for me.

Next is Daddy's Girl which I was excited about. I was excited but it ended up being a flop for me.  It's a milky sheer light pink.  It was just way too translucent for me.  I couldn't make it work. I think it'd be a great base coat for a french mani, but alone it just wasn't a hit for me. I had issues with balding, which I am sure you can see in the photos. This is three coats, look how sheer! I think with a careful hand this would work best for a french base. I'll try it and report back.

Overall, these we just okay for me. Maybe I am just not a light pink girl. I have two other Duri's that I love so these just were not the colors for me.

What do you have on today? Are you rocking pink?

Butter London: All Hail the Queen

Good morning my friends. Thanks for baring with me as I sort out the commenting issues on my blog. I have no idea why that one post was not allowing comments. I still can't figure it out. As long as it works going forward I will be happy. I blog so that I can connect with my readers, without comments I can't do that.  I like Disqus, as long as it works! Intense Debate was a bit better, to me, because you all could share links to your latest blog posts. If you know how I can incorporate that into Disqus let me know. I found many amazing blogs that way.

Anyway, today I have a Butter London polish to share with you all. This is All Hail the Queen which at some point I believe was called All Hail McQueen I am assuming that was shortly after Alexander McQueen's untimely death.  This is essentially the base color of Yummy Mummy with some holographic sparkle added in.  The holographic sparkle makes this shade so gorgeous.  It's subtle indoors but outside, in natural lighting, it's fantastic. I almost wish it was a bit more in your face, but then again the subtly makes it more wearable.

I used three coats for the opacity shown, two just did not cut it for me. If you recall, I liked Yummy Mummy but felt that it chipped quicker than average for me.  I found this one wore a bit longer but still wasn't amazing in the staying power department.  I think the reason it may have worn better was because I used Butter London's base and top coat.

I really like the base coat. The one I tried was the Nail Foundation Flawless Base Coat. Which comes in a nice large bottle. It had a great matte finish which I am sure helped the polish to adhere well to the nail. I am a sucker for a good base coat, and this is a good one.

I also used the Hardware P.D. Quick Topcoat which was your average, run of the mill, quick drying top coat.  Similar to Seche Vite, though not quite as thick.  It worked well and did dry quickly, maybe took slightly longer than my beloved Seche, but performed generally the same.  It's 3 Free, which is great for a quick dry top coat, so if you're in the market for something 3-Free then this might work for you.  I love Seche Vite but it does contain Toluene, which concerns many folks.

Butter London polishes can be purchased at ButterLondon.com, Ulta and some other places online.  They are $14 a piece which is a bit hard to swallow so make sure you go for a color you can't dupe elsewhere.

What are your favorite Butter London shades? How do they wear for you? Do you find them worth the price?

Testing: Comments

Of course, because I need this hassle and have all the time in the world to deal with it, Disqus stopped working on my blog.  First IntenseDebate disappears now Disqus. IDK what the issue is I am not doing anything different!

Please let me know if you can  comment here.

Looks like you can maybe but there is no way to comment on the Zoya post below.  I have no clue why as I got a comment on it yesterday but all of a sudden now there is no link to comments.

Zoya: Bevin & Opal and China Glaze: Gaga For Green

Good morning everyone.   Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day so of course I have to post some green polish for your pleasure; it just wouldn't be right if I didn't.  I have two to show you, I guess technically three but you know what I mean.

First up is Zoya's Bevin topped with Zoya's Opal. Bevin is from the True collection and you can see my full review of it here. Opal  is from the Fleck Effect Collection which was released around the same time as the True collection.  Opal is mostly for use as a top coat as the base is a really sheer green color.  You could wear it alone but it's more of a glaze than anything else.  The polish is packed with tons of reflective flakies that flash green, pink and blue to my eye.  Zoya's description never mentions it flashing pink but I think you can see in the photos below that it does for sure. I think it pairs well over Bevin if you want to keep it green, but I think it'd look best over something more dark.

I used two coats of Opal over Bevin for the look shown below.

The next green I want to show you is China Glaze's Gaga for Green. This is a bright green creme from the Electro Pop collection.

This has that wonderful jelly creme hybrid finish that I was showing you in the newer Nubar polishes. I just love this finish, the opacity of a creme with the high shine finish of a jelly. What could be better?

I did use three coats for the opacity shown, so don't get me wrong it's not incredibly opaque but I'll slap on that extra coats for the shine any day than take a one coater! It applied well, no streaking or balding and it has lasted through this entire week. (I have been to lazy to lacquer LOL).

So of these, which do you like best?  Will you be rocking green on St. Patrick's Day? Which one will you sport?

Happy St. Patrick's Day tomorrow to you all. Even if you're not Irish and just want to drink some green beer and enjoy a green bagel have fun and be safe.  I don't plan to do anything special for the day but I did decorate my home a little with St. Patrick's Day things. I am such a dork!

Nicole by OPI: Back to Reality... TV (Kardashian Colors)

Good morning all. While yesterday was a beautiful day today it's gloomy and drizzly. Oh well, can't be beautiful all the time!

Today I want to show you one of the Kardashian Colors which was exclusive to  CVS. This is Back to Reality...TV which really is the perfect name for something the Kardashian's endorse.  This is a periwinkle style purple/blue with pink/red microshimmer.  As I noted before, we're seeing a lot of microshimmer this season and I actually kind of dig it.  The shimmer in this adds interest and uniqueness.

This one was pretty sheer and I did need three coats for full opacity.  However, this did not go on streaky and I had no balding issues with the first two coats, I just did three to get it more opaque and avoid the dreaded VNL.

I really need to feature more of my Nicole by OPI collection. I tend to just put them away and not use them. I don't know what my problem is with them because they have a great formula (essentially identical to OPI). I think it's the bottle shape to be honest. Yes, stupid reason not to use a polish, or polish brand, but I think that's it. I HATE the shape of these bottles.  They are hard to hold for photos and stinkin' ugly! I am ridiculous!

What do you think of this color though? I love it, but you know how I am with my purple polishes!

OPI: Fly (Nicki Minaj Collection)

Happy Monday everyone! Today was a beautiful day in Connecticut.  It was over 70 degrees today, which is awesome for March. I hope this weather stays around, it just makes me happy! I am also happy that we "sprang ahead" this weekend and now have an extra hour of day light. I get out of work at 5:30 pm daily so to get out of work and have it be light out is heavenly to me!

Sticking with the warm spring weather I have a fun color to share with you today!  This is OPI's Fly which is an insanely gorgeous teal blue color that debuted with the Nicki Minaj collection.  This color is so beautiful and it's got a fantastic shiny finish which I just love! I can see this being a really fun pedicure color for the summer!

I used two coats for full opacity and it went on great. I had no issues with streaking or balding at all.  Like I said the finish is shiny which is what I love in a creme. Some cremes can look dull and I am drawn to the shiny ones more so than ones with a dull finish. This is just the perfect creme finish.

So how do you like this one? Will it make its way into your collection?

Are you excited to have an extra hour of day light, or do you live in an area that does not practice Day Light Savings time? I am always interested in that!

Testing: Comments

Intense Debate for comments decided to stop working so I *think I installed Disqus.... I only see it on some posts though. Oh and thanks to IntenseDebate I lost all of my old comments. I am so sad :( And for some reason this new Disqus is not working on the Fast Track post below.  Ugh!

Thanks to reader April in Florida for emailing me about the inability to comment.  I appreciate the heads up!

I am so sad that all of my comments seem to be lost. I appreciate each of you who take the time to comment and I hate that all of that work is gone! Keep commenting because the interaction is what makes the blog fun!

China Glaze: Fast Track

Hi everyone! Today's post is a bit late but better late than never.  Today was a beautiful day here in Connecticut, I am so happy it's finally starting to feel like spring. I hope it stays this nice!

Today I want to show you a color from China Glaze's  Capitol Colors collection which was inspired by the upcoming Hunger Games movie.  I am so excited to see the Hunger Games because I adored the books, so when I saw the polish collection I was really excited.

I went  to several Sally Beauty supply stores in search of this particular color because when I saw swatches on other blogs I love I knew I had to have it in my life. I am so happy I finally found it, and what do you know, it was in the Sally Beauty right in my city. Here I was going all over the place and it was right there, close to home. Go figure!

So this is Fast Track. I love this color. China Glaze calls it a "soft sandy brown with gold metallic shimmer" and that's accurate to me. It's like shimmering sands. The gold shimmer in this is absolutely incredible looking. I love this because it's sort of a nude/neutral color but the gold makes it so interesting and unique.

The formula in this is a bit on the thin side and I needed three coats to achieve full opacity. On two coats I had some bald areas, three seemed to work just right for me.

Gorgeous right? I just love it!
Have you noticed that we're seeing quite a lot of these sorts of shimmers lately? I am loving this season's take on shimmer with the metallic microshimmer finishes. What do you think of this trend?

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink: OPI: Pedal Faster Suzi! (Holland Collection)

Happy Wednesday everyone. As you know, on Wednesdays we wear pink! Today's pink is from OPI's Holland collection and it's called Pedal Faster Suzi! This is a baby pink polish packed with tons of silver microshimmer.  It's absolutely gorgeous! I really like this one.  I think anyone can pull this color off and I think it's subtle enough to wear to a conservative workplace but has enough of a pop to add interest and not be boring.

This is similar in finish to I Don't Give a Rotterdam in that it is almost textured.  It's thin and required three coats for maximum opacity just like I Don't Give a Rotterdam.  It evens out nicely in the end and the finish is just so interesting!

What pink are you wearing this Wednesday? Do you like this one?

OPI: I Don't Give a Rotterdam (Holland Collection)

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping in and reading my blog today! I have another great OPI polish to show you. This is I Don't Give a Rotterdam from the Holland collection. This is a really pretty dusty baby blue packed with silver shimmer particles. The shimmer almost looks matte to me. Instead of really high shine shimmer it seems to just add a cool texture to the polish to me.  I love the look to this one. It's pretty unique but does remind me of Zoya's Skylar. I think I Don't Give a Rotterdam is a touch lighter than Skylar.

The formula  was good but on the thin side. I did need to use three coats for full opacity and you may be able to see some balding in the photos on the index finger (especially in the first photo).  So be careful with the application on this one. I think the extra effort is worth it though because this color is really nice! The third coat mostly evened out any issues so no worries.

Loving this color. I think it's just a really great shade of blue. The texture makes this color something special so I think it's somewhat unique. What do you think of this one?
