OPI: Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees

Long enough name for you? I swear these people who name OPI polish are off their rocker!! "Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees" debuted with the Fall/Winter 2009 Collection entitled Coleccion de Espana. OPI describes the color as "deep blue-gray" and I'd say that's pretty accurate. Deep is the key word, this is almost black in certain lighting. I hope that I was able to capture the blue-gray nature of the color though because it really is quite pretty.

Note: I realize now that I accidently tagged these photos with "skies" not "skis" I am way too lazy to change it but it's "skis" Sorry!

"Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees" is a creme formula (my favorite!). I feel like this one was pretty thin. At one coat it was streaky and left some bald spots. I needed three coats to get it opaque, which is fine, but the formula was a touch difficult to work with IMO.

Like all OPI polishes this bottle sports my nemesis, the dreaded pro-wide brush. I HATE that thing! I hate it so much that I am seriously considering not buying OPI ever again, GASP, I KNOW!!!!!!!! That brush seriously makes such a mess on me, and I don't think I have small nails or anything. I just cannot get that stupid brush to stay away from my skin. I have to give myself a messy mani and then pick off the polish from my skin in the shower. (Good trick BTW, the hot water makes it a cinch to get the polish off of your skin).

I hope you can see how pretty this color is. It's not black but it's close. It's a gorgeous dark gray with hints of deep blue. My husband picked it out for me he said he likes dark polish, who knew!?! I think this will make a nice base coat for a Konad design in White. We'll see won't we?

Poll Results: What is your favorite nail polish brand?

Two blog posts in one day!? I am on FIRE! LOL. Don't forget to check out my post today on LA Girl Rock Star "Live on Stage" I am really loving that polish (see below).

I just wanted to share the results of my first poll here at Prim and Polished. I asked what your favorite nail polish brand is and 15 of you have spoken and the winner is.... OPI!!! 7 of you prefer OPI followed closely by 5 of you choosing China Glaze!!

What makes OPI such a favorite? I imagine their vast color selection, frequent special collections and quality give them an edge. While they are a touch pricey for some they are readily accessible, often on sale, and not THAT expensive (think Rescue Beauty Lounge!)

I voted on the poll and I choose China Glaze. I really love their product, I think the formula is consistently good, they're inexpensive, have a huge color selection and great staying power. I wish they were easier to find in physical locations other than Sally Beauty, but hey, what are you gonna do right?!

If you missed the poll please let me know in the comments below what your favorite polish brand is and why!

Don't forget to vote in the new poll asking what your favorite polish formula is!!

LA Girl Rock Star Nail Lacquer: "Live On Stage"

Yesterday I hit the mall in search of Sephora by OPI's limited edition color called "Worth My Weight" which is a gorgeous gold base with holographic glitter:

Before popping into Sephora I went into a store called Amuse, which I knew carried NYX products. I was hoping I'd be able to score an eyeshadow palette but much to my disappointment they did not have the Runway Palettes. They did however have a striking display of LA Girl Nail Lacquers and I was immediately drawn to the gold/holo glitter color in the Rock Star line called "Live on Stage". I swore this was an exact dupe of "Worth my Weight" and much less expensive to boot at just $3.99 (compared to $9). I didn't buy it right away, I decided to come back after Sephora in case it wasn't an exact dupe.

Well to make a long story short my Sephora didn't even have "Worth my Weight" so I went back to Amuse (Not after hitting a beauty discount store and scoring $3.95 bottles of OPI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and picking up "Live on Stage".

I am convinced this is the perfect dupe of "Worth my Weight". It has a shiny gold base which is opaque is 2-3 coats (you'll see 3 here) and is filled with both silver and holographic glitter. The holographic glitter is so cool, when the light hits it it reflects all the colors of the rainbow and makes this polish an eye catcher for sure. It was difficult to photograph the holographic nature of the polish but where you see the larger glitter particles is where you'd see the rainbow effect.

The glitter in this is chunky so you'll need a thick topcoat for the polish to feel smooth to the touch, if you even care. Application was GREAT! This is my first LA Girls polish but it will not be my last, it was wonderful in consistency.

If you missed the Sephora by OPI "Worth my Weight" color but were interested in checking it out, save your money (it's still on line but you'd pay $9 plus shipping) and try to get your hands on the LA Girls "Live on Stage" for under $4. I promise you won't be disappointed.

LA Girls can be purchased at LA Girl, and Cherry Culture (for $2.80 right now!!),
