Cult Nails Press Release: R3Daily's New Polish Line

I was very excited to see this press release in my Google Reader this afternoon. Maria at R3Daily is starting her very own nail polish line! I am so excited to see a fellow blogger make her dreams come true and I am happy to have known her from the start ;-) Don't forget about us when this makes you a household name like Essie or OPI girl!!!

When Maria first started blogging I had the pleasure of featuring her in one of my Interview with a Polish Blogger segments. You can read Maria's interview here. One interesting fact is that right before Maria first started R3Daily she visited a psychic and the psychic totally foreshadowed what was to come. Maria had been contemplating blogging about lacquer for a while and the psychic totally felt that. You can read more about that experience in her interview.

I wanted to share Maria's press release with you all (though I do imagine most of you follow her fantastic blog).

Cult Nails Press Release:

August 31, 2010 Nail polish blogger R3 Daily announces a new nail polish line, Cult Nails. Maria Morrison is the blogger of R3 Daily and creator of Cult Nails. The polish line will be B3 Free which means it does not contain formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phtalate. Cult Nails polish line is also camphor free, cruelty free and considered a vegan friendly product. "When creating this line it was important to me that not only can I safely wear it, but so can my daughters."

The line will launch in early 2011 with only three colors. Cult Nails will continue to introduce colors to the line throughout each fashion season in 2011. Maria stated that "While I was very excited about the opportunity, I had to be realistic in what I could bring to the table. A small line with a limited collection is a perfect introduction for Cult Nails. The focus is on creating trend setting polish colors that are fun and safe while taking an earth friendly stance in everything we do" In fact Cult Nails commitment to being earth friendly means removing unnecessary packaging, using boxes for shipping that are made from 100% recycled materials and shipping packages with reusable packing materials, like cotton balls.

The three introductory shades will retail for $10 per bottle and will include a vibrant holographic red aptly named "Follow Me", a true grey purple creme with a subtle shimmer named "My Kind of Cool Aid" and a yet to be chosen color that R3 Daily's blog followers will have an opportunity to create. Maria's goal is to involve the polish blogging community in the creation of this new line, "Polish bloggers and followers are the most amazing group of women I have seen. They are so supportive of each other and have amazing ideas when it comes to polish. I can't wait to see what they create! This line isn't just for me, it's for all of us!"

For more information on R3 Daily or Cult nails go to: http://www.r3daily.com/ or http://www.cultnails.com/
So be sure to check out her website and enter the contest for your chance to have your color be a part of Cult Nails inaugural line.

Congratulations Maria. I am excited to see where this polish line goes and I wish you continued success in the process. It's amazing to see someone's dreams come true and truly inspirational to all of us who have big ideas.

Essie: Sew Psyched (The Fall Collection)

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, I did! My amazing husband bought me a new car. He is really the best. I was driving a beat up 1999 Mercury Cougar which was on its way out so my hubby treated me to a new whip! I love him! I am so greatful and excited. I am now the proud owner of a 2010 Suzuki Kizashi. It's a new model that just came out this year. I love it! It's the perfect car for me. Perfect size, nice and sporty. I have never had a new car before so this is a huge treat. I am no longer embarrassed of my vehicle LOL. It's so pretty, I will take some pics soon. It's dark gray with black interior. I am so excited to drive around in this baby! Cheers to a great weekend and a wonderful husband!

Today I have another color to share from Essie's Fall Collection. This is Sew Psyched it's a gorgeous grey-green. Essie calls this color a "cashmere-soft sage pewter" and I can get behind that description. In some lights it looks gray and it others it's clearly a green. I just love this color and I think it's the stand out from this collection for sure.

The formula is wonderful. It's a great creme that goes on smooth and isn't too thin or too thick. I love cremes and this is no exception. It was nearly opaque in one coat, two coats leaves it perfectly opaque with no streaking or bald spots. I love two coaters!

These might not be my best swatches. This was the first sunny day in a while and I took these in a different location (the top of the court parking lot on my way into "work"). I need to stick to my usual swatching location I think.

As always, click on the images to enlarge.

So are you digging Sew Psyched as much as I am? I really love this color. I think you need to see it in real life to really appreciate it's beauty and uniqueness.

This collection is set to launch on September 1, 2010 but I do believe some Ulta stores have it out already (I noticed they tend to do that sometimes). Polishes retail for $8 a pop.

Essie Merino Cool and a Possible Chanel Paradoxal Dupe

Hello readers! I hope all is well. Sorry it's been a slow week but I didn't have much sun here this week so I wasn't able to take any new photos and didn't have any posts lined up. My bad! I received the Essie Fall Collection and I am excited to share this with you. I think the colors in this collection are really beautiful and perfect for fall.

Today I want to show you one of the gorgeous colors from Essie's Fall Collection. This is Merino Cool: Essie describes this as a "sensuous autumn mulberry" whatever that means LOL. It's a purple/grey color reminiscent of Sephora by OPI Metro Chic. I love colors like this so I am really happy with the color.

The formula on this was quite nice. No problems to report. I am generally a big fan of Essie and this is no exception.

Now I may have a possible Chanel Paradoxal dupe here though I am positive that my photos are not good quality at all because they were taken in overcast sort of dreary weather. However, use your imagination and you may have yourself a little dupe here. I used Merino Cool with the CND effect in Amethyst Sparkle and I swear in real life it's close to Paradoxal.

See Vampy Varnish's swatches of Paradoxal here.

What do you think of Merino Cool? What other colors from the Fall Collection are you excited about? Is this combo a close enough dupe for you? I think it is for me. I don't want to shell out Chanel money for that color LOL I am too cheap.

Have a great day!

OPI: Glitzerland (Swiss Collection)

Happy Monday everyone. It's a yucky day here today, dreary, drizzly rain and actually pretty cold, in the 60s. Strange because it's been so hot and humid here. I can't complain too much though because there's been a drought here so we need the rain!

I told you a while back that I went shopping with my mom and she bought me some polishes and here's one of them, Glitzerland from OPI's Swiss Collection. This was the only color that stood out for me from this collection. It's got that lovely foil like finish too it which makes it sparkle in the sunshine. I love it! It's sort of like China Glaze's Swing Baby in finish but the color is different Glitzerland is more of a true yellow gold like the actual metal.

I like the finish on this one. It was easy to apply and required little clean up for me which is always a plus. I usually struggle with OPI's pro-wide brush but it worked well for me in this case. I just love this color and formula.

So do you like Glitzerland? What colors, if any, did you get from the Swiss Collection? Let me know in the comments!!!!!!

Wet n' Wild: "Hush Hush"

Happy Friday my friends!!!! I hope you all had a wonderful stress free week and are ready for a fun/relaxing weekend. On Wednesday I went to buy cat food because my husband (who feeds the cats) ran out and didn't tell me when I went grocery shopping earlier this week and of course I could not resist picking up a polish for my troubles (LOL any excuse right?). I went sort of outside the box with this pick because I do not normally wear colors like this or sheers but something drew me to this color!

Ever since I saw this post on Emerald Sparkled I have been obsessed with finding my perfect nude. I think this one comes close to the famous Turkish polish she showcased. What do you think?

This is Wet n Wild's Hush Hush it's a sheer milky white creme color and it's perfect for clean, professional manicured nails. I really like this color for the office and I think it still adds interest because it's on the whiter side; many times nude looks focus on pink which doesn't seem to work for me. Usually sheers look gross on me, they make my hands seem dirty or something. This one works with my skin tone though... well, I think so, what do you think?

I used 3 coats and I probably could have used 4 and had a teeny bit more opacity but this is pretty opaque for such a sheer color. Application was alright. This is the first Wet n Wild Megalast color I have tried and for $1.99 it's pretty good. I don't love the brush though. The shape is sort of irregular on the tip which made sort of a mess by the cuticles but nothing a little clean up didn't fix so no big deal really.

So, do you like colors like this? Do you think this looks good on me, you can tell me the truth, it won't hurt my feelings. Is this a sheer you'd rock? What are your favorite sheer colors? I would love some suggestions from you all.

Have a wonderful weekend. Thanks for reading and don't be shy, comment! I love reading what you all have to say! Xoxox!

Deborah Lippmann : Bad Romance

Happy Wednesday everyone. I hope your week is going well. Today I have one of the newest polishes from Deborah Lippmann to share with you all: Bad Romance.

Lippmann describes Bad Romance as "GaGa blackened fuchsia (glitter)". It's a black, semi jelly like base with tons of small fuchsia glitter and fuchsia hexagon shaped glitter. I think it's a really pretty combo, I love black and purple!

The formula on this is not my favorite. It took three coats to achieve the look below and I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get tons of the hex glitter to show up on my nails. I think this polish takes some skill to apply properly without making a mess. When I wear it again I will be more careful and see if I can get more of that amazing hex glitter to show up!

Bad Romance is available at Nordstrom stores or online at Deborah Lippmann's site for $18. What do you think of Bad Romance a must have or something you're going to skip? I really love the color, if I can get the hex glitter to show up more I will rock this often!

Deborah Lippmann: "Waking up in Vegas"

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week and have an even better weekend! My husband and I are going Zip-lining with some friends tomorrow and I am scared. There are 5 "canopy" zip-lines, two sky bridges and an optional rope walk and cargo net course on the tour. I am so scared because the highest one is 70 feet high. WOAH! I hope I don't chicken out. I will keep you posted on how that goes.

Today I wanted to share Deborah Lippmann's Waking up in Vegas with you because I am sure you noticed it's been getting a lot of press since Lady Gaga wore it on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine:

It's described by the company as a "putty-licious gray" creme. It's a basic light cream color which is pretty on trend right now. I think this color works for many skin tones, I have seen it swatched on pale skin, medium skin, tan skin and dark skin and I have liked it on all.

The formula is quite nice on this one. In fact, it was opaque in ONE coat. However, I ruined my one coat wonder by adding a second thinking I'd fix any mistakes I made but this baby actually looked much better (IMO) with the one coat. I love one coat wonders! I found two coats to be overkill and all I really did was create streaks. One coat for me next time for sure.

She's a beauty!!!! I love this color. Edgy but totally work appropriate. I wore it to court the other day and handled arraignments on the docket for the defense and no one said anything about it being inappropriate so there's my green light to wear it to work!

You can get Lippmann polishes at Nordstrom or online. This color is $16.

Poll Results: What's the Most You'd Spend on a Single Bottle of Nail Polish

In this week's poll I asked you what's the most you'd spend on a single bottle of nail polish. The results are in and the majority of you said $6-10 which I would consider the average price of nail polish these days.

Me, I tend to fall into the $16-20 range, but that's only for EXTRA special polishes that are both high quality and unique, otherwise I am with the majority and like to see $6-10 when possible.

Is high end worth it? Sure, sometimes it's nice to splurge but it's not necessary to get a high quality product all the time, there are many affordable brands out there that offer polishes for under $5. So be a responsible shopper but don't feel guilty treating yourself every once in a while, you're worth it!

P.S. sorry the percentages aren't really visible, IDK what happened there.

Milani: " Cyberspace"

I hope everyone had a great weekend. My husband and I went to Howe Caverns in upstate New York with two friends of us. We had a blast and though it's been commercialized the cave was still incredibly beautiful and memorable. Fun times!

Today I have another Milani holo to share with you. This is Cyberspace a gorgeous cornflower blue holographic polish. I really think this is my favorite one from the collection, the color is just so beautiful.

The formula is nice. It took three coats for opacity, which is what it took for me to make Hi Res opaque as well but it's not quite as thin as Hi Res was but close. Not problematic really. The result is gorgeous. I just love holos.

Isn't it so pretty? You can get Milani polishes at several drug stores like Walgreens, CVS and Walmart for around $4.50.

I just love holos. I need more! I am going to have to splurge on some Nfu-Oh holos I think! Those look amazing!!!!

Until next time, thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!

Deborah Lippmann: "Call Me Irresponsible" and a Press Release

Happy Saturday readers. Today my husband and I are going on a mini road trip with some great friends. Should be a good time. Before I go I thought I'd post since I didn't post a lot this week. I have another great Lippmann color to share with you, and this one is quite different from the other I reviewed.

This is Deborah Lippmann's Call Me Irresponsible and it's described as a "Vivacious violet (creme)". I find this color to be quite interesting. In the bottle it appears to be a medium toned blue based purple but on the nails it's more of a red based purple, strange how that happens huh? I think I like the color in the bottle slightly better but the color on the nails is pretty too.

The formula is described as a creme and it is, in that it has no glitter or sparkle. However, I'd say this really leans more to the jelly side of things. It's very sheer. My photos show three coats but I think it could benefit from one more coat to get it a touch more opaque. I am pretty sure the photos illustrate the jelly like quality I am speaking about, you know that super shiny, squishy looking, translucent type color. I think next time I will do four coats to see if I can get it more opaque but three coats is still something to look at. It's really really shiny which is a quality I ADORE in polish.

This one was slightly more difficult for me to apply than Don't Tell Mama was, but I think that's because I decided it would be a good idea to do my nails before going into my volunteer job so I, admittedly, was in a bit of a rush. I like that it went on pretty smoothly, since it's sort of a jelly my only issue was with some balding, so I'd say you just need to be careful when applying. I like that these polishes do not buildup on the side of the bottle. I HATE when you're applying polish and the opening gets caked with polish. Both of the Lippmann polishes I have reviewed do not do that which is great.

Can you see what I mean about the color in the bottle being more blue based and the color on the nails being more red based? Interesting right?

What do you think of Call Me Irresponsible?

I also received this press release from Deborah Lippmann featuring Lady Gaga. I am NOT fan of Gaga, I think she's totally overrated but there is no denying that she's a pop sensation at this point. So I am sure many of you were wondering what she was wearing on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine and it was a gorgeous color by Deborah Lippmann, see below:

Leading fashion manicurist Deborah Lippmann is the go-to girl for Hollywood’s hottest nails! The nail polish trend-maker styled Lady Gaga’s nails for Vanity Fair’s September cover with Waking Up In Vegas. The putty-licious gray crème is a super-sultry rendition of the popular grey-nail look.

The first time the pair met, Lippmann applied Ruby Red Slippers to the popstar’s nails—an encounter that inspired bold new addition to the Deborah Lippmann line, Bad Romance. Lippmann set out to capture all the elements of Gaga’s larger than life persona in a bottle and thought “What would Gaga do?” The result? Bad Romance—a moody, dark yet brilliantly provocative glitter polish. The chunky sequin shade reflects Gaga’s signature statement-making style and the bold message of the namesake song.

Deborah Lippmann and Lady Gaga:

Both colors are available on Deborah Lippmann's website. Waking Up In Vegas is $16 and Bad Romance is $18. Who's excited for these two beauties?
