Nubar: Grape & Blueberry

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you have some fun plans for the weekend. I hope my husband and I get to go see The Avengers but we have a pretty busy weekend so who knows if we will make it to the movies.

Today I have two colors from Nubar's Jellybean collection to share with you.  The first is Grape which is a gorgeous mid-toned purple.  The formula on this is awesome. It's a creme/jelly hybrid which means it's opaque but super shiny and squishy looking like a jelly. I love love love love love purples like this! I just think they are so flattering with my skin tone.  I only needed two coats for the opacity shown, which impressed me.

Next up is Blueberry which was IMPOSSIBLE to photograph. I am telling you right now, this is not color accurate. This color messed with my camera like you would not believe.  OMG! So even though the color in the photos below is beautiful it is NOT what Blueberry looks like at all in real life. Sigh.  In real life Blueberry is simply a true royal blue. It's about as royal blue of a color that I have seen in polish and it's quite beautiful. It's pretty similar in texture and color to Revlon's Royal.  I wish I could have captured the true color but my camera just couldn't deal with its awesomeness.

I love Nubar polishes and these two are no exception. Pretty much the entire Jellybean collection has fantastic formulas and vibrant fun colors. I've never seen Nubar polishes in a store, only online, but if you haven't tried the brand you should, they're really awesome quality.

What colors by Nubar are your favorites? What are your plans for the weekend?!

Nubar: Blue Raspberry and Black Polka Dots

Hi everyone! Thanks for popping in and seeing what's on my nails.

Today I have two polishes from Nubar to share with you.  The first is Blue Raspberry from their Jelly Beans collection. Nubar calls this one "a semi-opaque light turquoise creme".  That's spot on. This is somewhat of a creme/jelly hybrid. Similar to Strawberry from the same collection in consistency.

The finish is awesome. You know how I love these creme jellies. I used three coats for full opacity. The finish is super high shine and squishy! I just love this look. I wish there were many more polishes with this finish.

The color is great. It reminds me of Essie's Turqioise and Caicos but to my eye pulls slightly greener or perhaps is just a bit darker.

I am a big fan of this one. From the color to the texture, Nubar just got everything right here.

To make that beauty even better I decided to add two coats of Nubar's Black Polka Dot.  This is from the Polka Dot Collection and it rocks!

Black Polka Dot is a pretty much clear base with tons of black hex and smaller black glitter particles.  This looks so cool over Blue Raspberry. I have to say, I think this is one of my favorite manicures, at least the favorite as of late.  I think it looks awesome!

So what do you think of these polishes? What would you wear Black Polka Dot over? Do you have any polishes that I NEED with the same creme/jelly texture as Blue Raspberry

Happy Valentine's Day & Nubar Strawberry

Hi everyone! Thank you for hanging in there with me when I took a little time off to deal with the loss of my aunt. I am back and ready to write. Thank you all for your kind comments, they mean so much to me.  I am so glad you all could see how wonderful my aunt was from my post. Her services were exactly how she'd have wanted and well over 600 people came to her wake. She was well loved and leaves a big hole in the hearts of many. he's going to be missed each and every day but life goes on and she wouldn't want me to dwell.

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you all were spoiled today. I hope that even though today is a day to spoil your love that you tell them what they mean to you everyday, not just on Valentine's Day.

Today I want to show you a gorgeous pink jelly/creme from Nubar. This is Strawberry and it is part of Nubar's new spring Jellybeans collection.  This is a really interesting color because the finish falls between a jelly and a creme. I just love it! It's squishy and shiny and just the right shade of pink for me.

I used three coats for full opacity and I just love the results. The formula was excellent, my ideal really. I just love a good jelly style polish that can actually be opaque.

If light pinks tend to give you lobster hands try this one. I think it's blue based enough to keep the red in your skin tone from popping out. If I was going to list my favorite pinks this would be in the top 5 for sure.

So what say you? Love it or leave it? What's your favorite shade of pink!? And let me know if you did anything romantic for Valentine's Day!

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink: nubar: Pink Lily

Once again here we are on Wednesday! Almost through the week of work and one  step closer to the long weekend! And you know what happens on Wednesday don't you? On Wednesday we wear pink! So the pink of the day today is nubar's Pink Lily. Nubar describes Pink Lily as a "vibrant pink creme".  It's a nice bright pink which leans pastel but has a little more peach to it than a typical baby pink.

Formula wise this was not my favorite. It's really opaque but it requires three coats because it goes on streaky and uneven. it absolutely requires the assistance of a glossy top coat for shine as it's sort of chalky on its own. It's not bad but it's just not the easiest thing to work with.

So are you a fan of this pink? Would you rock it?

nubar: Honeysuckle & Purple Aster (Spring Garden Collection)

TGIF everyone! I hope you all had a nice week and that your weekend is even better. The weather is finally beautiful here so I am thrilled! I love when it gets warm!!!!

Today I have two colors from nubar's Spring Garden Collection, Honeysuckle and Purple Aster. I had a break during these photos and the sun was not cooperating so they're not my best shots. I apoligize!

Honeysuckle is a really pretty bright hot pink. It's not neon but it's still "hot".  It's a creme so there's no shimmer or frost. I love cremes! I do not typically favor pinks of any kind but this one is nice. I think I'd rather have it on my toes.

I needed three coats for opacity on this one. I like two but we can't always get what we want! Otherwise the formula was great just like all of the nubar polishes I have tried.

Up next is Purple Aster. This color is a pastel light lavender color. It's also a creme. It's not chalky like some pastels can be so that's a plus.  The sun refused to peak out the day I photographed this one! So frustrating. It's pretty though not unique. I cannot get enough of these purples in my collection though so it's a welcome addition in my Helmer!

I used two coats for opacity on this one! That's more like it! No brush strokes or balding at all. A solid polish!

Overall these two are nice offerings from the Spring Garden collection. Nothing really out of the ordinary but nice colored good quality polish. You can get these at bynubar.com for $7.49 each.

What do you think of these two? Which do you like best?

nubar: Baby Sprout

Hi everyone!!! Today I have another green to share with you. This is Baby Sprout by nubar.  This is part of the Spring Garden Collection.  That collection is full of pastels which are the types of colors I usually associate with spring.  This particular pastel green is super light and in some lighting can appear white. The green is subtle. It's not mint green though, it's got some yellow to it IMO.

The formula was easy to work with. Sometimes pastels are chalky and thick but this was neighter which is refreshing. I generally find nubar polishes to be very high quality. I used two coats for full opacity and topped it with Seche Vite which gave it some shine.

I wanted to feature some greens this week for St. Patrick's Day. This is not necessairly a St. Patrick's Day type green but it's green nonetheless so here it is!

So what do you think of this green? Would you rock this color or is it something you can live without?

You can purchase this collection at bynubar for $39.95. It comes with 9 polishes, 8 in the pack and a glitter top coat called Dew Drop in separate packaging. I believe Dew Drop does come with the collection but I am not 100% sure.

Silver Bells... Silver Bells... (China Glaze Cheers to You with nubar Silver Glitter)

Hi everyone! I hope you're all getting into the Christmas spirit because before you know it it will be Christmas Day! I am a slight Grinch this year, I'd say about 50% but hopefully I will be better come Saturday. I just feel I could have done better with gifts this year but I really just did not have the money to buy people what I'd have liked.  Oh well, next year.

Today I have what I am calling my Silver Bells manicure which features two different colors from two different company's holiday collections.  This is China Glaze's Cheers to You topped with three coats of nubar's Silver Bells.  Silver Bells came out with the Holiday Jewel Basket which is still available from nubar for $49.95 and comes with 9 polishes and a really cute basket.  I love the set, it's perfect for the holidays and beyond really.

I already reviewed the China Glaze color here, so be sure to check out those swatches if you're interested. It's essentially a silver metal. The Silver Glitter is gorgeous and super blingy. I think it's best used as a top coat as it's silver glitter in a clear base. The glitter is pretty densely packed so you probably could do several coats and get decently opaque results but I personally like to use it layered. Over Cheers to You it's really fantastic. You get super glittery metallic nails. I think it's like tinsel so it's a nice look for the season.

As far as the swatches go I think the two indoor photos are most color accurate. I find glitters photograph best for me indoors, while other finishes do not do as well indoors with my camera. Who knows why?

So what do you think of this combo? Festive? Do you have either color? What would you layer the silver glitter over?

nubar: Competition Red, Pixie Dust and Nubar 2010

I hope you all had an amazing and delicious holiday and I hope you're home safe on this insane Black Friday. No deal is deal enough to get me out there in that craziness.

Today I want to share some nubar holiday polishes with you. I have Competition Red and two gorgeous glitter top coats Pixie Dust and Nubar 2010.  Let's start with Competition Red.

Competition Red is described as a "classic red creme" and that's exactly what this beauty is.  In my opinion it's neither a yellow based nor blue based red, I think it lies perfectly in the middle of the two. It's a gorgeous classic red creme. I cannot get enough of red cremes but that's just me.  I think it's a nice addition to their holiday basket.

The formula on this is lovely. I needed just two coats for maximum opacity and the brush  works well so I had little clean up to do. It's super shiny, as I am finding most nubar cremes to be.  Have a look:

Gorgeous right? I think so! On to the glitter top coats!

Pixie Dust  is  described as "a delicate dusting of shimmer" and I agree. It's a sparsly placed teeny tiny glitter which adds a pretty glaze to the nail. It's subtle but really really pretty. I used 2 coats so you could see it well in the swatch.

Nubar 2010 is described as "a flaky glitter in a color changing base" and it is reminiscent of of Sally Hansen's Hidden Treasure.  Flakies are ALWAYS pretty in my book and this is no exception. It flashes orange and green mostly to my eye. Check it out:

See anything you NEED? Do you like the top coats?

Let me know how your Thanksgiving was? I am off to Thanksgiving dinner round two today!
