Zoya: Bevin & Opal and China Glaze: Gaga For Green

Good morning everyone.   Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day so of course I have to post some green polish for your pleasure; it just wouldn't be right if I didn't.  I have two to show you, I guess technically three but you know what I mean.

First up is Zoya's Bevin topped with Zoya's Opal. Bevin is from the True collection and you can see my full review of it here. Opal  is from the Fleck Effect Collection which was released around the same time as the True collection.  Opal is mostly for use as a top coat as the base is a really sheer green color.  You could wear it alone but it's more of a glaze than anything else.  The polish is packed with tons of reflective flakies that flash green, pink and blue to my eye.  Zoya's description never mentions it flashing pink but I think you can see in the photos below that it does for sure. I think it pairs well over Bevin if you want to keep it green, but I think it'd look best over something more dark.

I used two coats of Opal over Bevin for the look shown below.

The next green I want to show you is China Glaze's Gaga for Green. This is a bright green creme from the Electro Pop collection.

This has that wonderful jelly creme hybrid finish that I was showing you in the newer Nubar polishes. I just love this finish, the opacity of a creme with the high shine finish of a jelly. What could be better?

I did use three coats for the opacity shown, so don't get me wrong it's not incredibly opaque but I'll slap on that extra coats for the shine any day than take a one coater! It applied well, no streaking or balding and it has lasted through this entire week. (I have been to lazy to lacquer LOL).

So of these, which do you like best?  Will you be rocking green on St. Patrick's Day? Which one will you sport?

Happy St. Patrick's Day tomorrow to you all. Even if you're not Irish and just want to drink some green beer and enjoy a green bagel have fun and be safe.  I don't plan to do anything special for the day but I did decorate my home a little with St. Patrick's Day things. I am such a dork!

Zoya: Lotus, Chloe and Tru

Happy Monday everyone. Ugh, I do not know where my weekend went! Today I am going to show you several polishes from Zoya. I think these three colors deserve a joint feature like this so you can see the differences and how they compliment each other.

The first polish  I have to share is Lotus. This is a gorgeous dusty blue toned purple with a really pretty pink microshimmer.  Purple polish is my favorite and this one is so nice! I love love love the pink shimmer in this. I really love how it works with my skin tone. I do tend to favor the blue toned purples, they just work for me.

I only needed two coats for full opacity.  The formula is smooth and balanced.  I did not feel any texture at all from the microshimmer which is great. I had no issues with streaking or balding.  This is a great formula.

I topped Lotus with Chloe from the Fleck Effect collection. It's a gloden/pink flakie suspended in a really sheer pink base.  It's the prefect top coat for Lotus  because it really plays on that pink shimmer. Depending on the lighting you can get glimpses of pink, gold and even sometimes blue with this one.

The polish is thick but manageable.  I found it very easy to disburse the flecks and the polish is packed with flakies.  Sometimes flakies are tricky but this one is like butter! I love it.

These Fleck Effect polishes are really fun to play with. Alone, they are really sheer but they do have color in the base. I'd say the base is more of a glaze than anything else. It will tint the nail but never be opaque. I plan to use these mostly for topcoats for that reason.  I do think that if you have a little one who is interested in polish it would be an appropriate color to play with.

The first photo has one coat of Chloe the others have two.

The last color I have to share with you today is Tru.  I chose to feature Tru and Lotus together because in the promo shots they appeared to be similar.  When I posted a preview of this collection one of you even mentioned that my photos were the first where you could actually see a difference.  The base color on the two colors is actually quite difference.  Tru is more of a red based purple.  It does have a similar microshimmer though.

I used two coats for opacity, and much like Lotus the formula was excellent.

I love the name of this one. Does anyone else remember the TV show Tru Calling with Eliza  Dushku? I loved that show! Random!

So what do you think of these purple beauties? I love purple polish! Purple is my all time favorite polish color. What's yours?

Finger Paints: Twisted (Flakie!!! Over Black)

TGIF! I know this will be my third post of the day but those were press releases and tags so I fell like some nail polish porn is needed to even it out :-)

The other day I was near one of the better Sally Beauty Supplies in my area and I hit the jackpot. They had all the new flakies (I only picked up the three I was interested in, Twisted, Asylum and Motley). I was lucky because they only had one of each of the ones I wanted! Score!!! Then on the clearence table they had two Orly's I have been looking for Androgynie and Rock Solid! It was a good shopping day!

I had to try Twisted  right away! I ran home and layered it over black. It looks amazing over black. It's a multicolored flakie. It's perfection! I am so happy with it. I think it will look amazing over any dark polish! It has red, orange, blue, purple and green flakies to my eye. I just love it. I used two  coats over one coat of a basic black creme:

Do you love this one as  much as I do? It's so pretty! I paid $5.99 each for them at Sally Beauty Supply. I am so happy because my Sally's never has the good stuff.

Coat by Coastal Scents: Cosmic

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a nice weekend! Today I have a stunning polish to share with you from Coastal Scent's new line of polishes called "Coat".  These polishes retial for $3.95 at Coastal Scents.  They're a little on the expensive side because they are only .20 oz or 6ml.  So they're about 1/2 the size or normal nail polishes... so they're essentially the price of Essie or OPI if you consider the size.

The color I purchased is called Cosmic and it's beautiful! Cosmic is a black jelly base packed with green and orange flakies. I wish the photos did it justice. I think the most accurate photo is the bottle photo to the right. That shows the amazing green flakies really well. On my nail photos you can only really see the orange flakies but I promise there are plenty of gorgeous emerald green flakies to be found in this one.

The formula is average and I didn't have much trouble applying it. It's a three coater for sure or else the base is too grayed out and sheer.  The bottle is super small and the handle is fat so it made it a little difficult to grip while applying. The brush is a little stubby too but I had no real issues with that. Flakies disbursed evenly and didn't get hung up on the tips of my nails at all.

Overall for the uniqueness of the color I really like this. I have had good experiences with Coastal Scents. I always get my products quickly, packaged with care and at a low shipping cost which is appreciated.  I'd order more polishes from the line to try out, I think they'd make nice stocking stuffers!

Have you tried Coat nail polish? What do  you think? Do you dig this color as much as I do? Sound off in the comments!

China Glaze (Anchors Away Collection): First Mate paired with Color Club: Covered in Diamonds

Happy Wednesday to my lovely readers! I hope you're all having a great week. Today I have two colors to share with you. One is from China Glaze's Anchors Away release and one is from Color Club's Untamed Luxury Collection. Enjoy!!

This is First Mate it's a royal blue creme. The color is beautiful but unfortunately the formula is not.  I am having some issues with the cremes in this collection being unreasonably thick. I had the same problem with the coveted Below Deck from this collection as well.  I found this difficult to work with. It's thick and goopy.

If you can get over the formula the color is gorgeous. It's rich and opaque and has  a nice high shine finish.

To sort of  jazz it up a bit I put Color Club's Covered in Diamonds on top. I think the colors go really wonderfully together. The flakies in this polish are so pretty against the blue, it looked like fish scales or something.

I actutally had the same issues with this color as well.  The formula is just so thick! It's goopy and difficult to apply. The effect is totally worth it though.  You're just left with big layers of polish at the end though.

So do you have either of these? Do you like them? Worth the hassle or do you like their formulations?

Sephora by OPI: 212 Sephora

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2011 began on the right note for you and I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world this year! Sorry for the lack of posts, it was a busy holiday  season for me.  On New Years Day my husband and I visited his brother and his family. I wanted to share some photos of my adorable nephew P.J. He's our first nephew and we're his Godparents so he's really special to us and too cute!!!

Here's my husband Steve and P.J. How cute is he (both of them LOL)?

Here I am with P.J. :-)

Cute right!? He's growing so fast! He's 5 and 1/2 months old now. Time flies! On to the New Years polish:

I decided to wear the Sephora by OPI polish is 212 Sephora. I have been wanting this color forever and I finally picked it up earlier in December. It's a really dark brown color that verges on black and it's filled with holo glitter and orange flakies. It's really interesting. I think it's okay to wear any time of year but it'd actually be a really great Halloween color now that I think about it!

The formula was nice, sort of sheer so I used three coats for full opacity.  I don't own many Sephora by OPI colors because they are not my favorite. Nothing is wrong with them they just don't appeal to me as much as other brands. I like this color a lot though!

I wanted more bling so I added Essie Carnival over this and it was really pretty in most lighting. But it was difficult to capture. Sorry!

Is this color in your collection? Do you wish it was? Let me know your favorite Sephora by OPI colors!
