Butter London: Trout Pout Lacquer & Lippy

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a nice weekend. My husband and I went hiking on Saturday morning and it was really nice.  It was supposed to rain all weekend but Saturday ended up being nice. Sunday, no so much, and it looks like this week is going to be rainy and dreary too. Boo!!! Oh well! Our hike was nice but we saw three HUGE, I mean HUGE snakes.  Two were off the trail but made so much noise we thought there was a deer or something, then the other scared me to death on the walking trail. These things were HUGE, like 4 feet long or more. They were harmless snakes but creepy! Good thing I am not totally terrified of them, I just go thrown off guard!

This is one of our favorite spots, you have to climb up the rocks/waterfall to get here and the photo doesn't do it justice because it's GIANT!

Warning, snake photos ahead!

The first one we saw off the path, this was huge. Look closely:

This is the one that made me scream. As we were walking I caught it out of the corner of my eye. I jumped a mile a screamed so it slithered off into the brush:

I told you they were huge!!! Yuck!!!!

On to the polish... today I have some goodies from Butter London to share with you. Butter London now has lip gloss, called Lippy, that matches some of the nail polish shades. Today I am going to show you both the nail polish and lippy in the color Trout Pout. Trout Pout is described by Butter London as a creamy peach-cantaloupe color. It's the perfect spring/summer peach!

This polish applied better and lasted longer than the Butter London polishes I have tried before. This is my first Butter London creme color so maybe it makes a difference. I used three coats for the opacity shown but probably could have gotten away with just two.  I had no issues with balding or streaking and I think my nails came out pretty good.

The corresponding lippy is the same color and very pretty. These retail for $17.00 so they are pretty pricey.  The formula is thick and sticky so you have to enjoy a sticky gloss. I found it a little difficult to apply without streaks but eventually it worked out.

These smell divine. To me it's like a fresh melon with a bit of a floral hint. Don't get nervous at the floral reference, it's subtle and the melon dominates. It's very nice!

I am new to taking lip photos so sorry these aren't "pro".

Overall I love having matching nails and lips. Sounds silly but it works out so nicely.  I really enjoy that there is an available lip gloss for some of the more lip gloss like colors Butter London offers.  I love the smell! I do find them a bit too thick but I also find MAC gloss thick so it might just be me. Still a nice product.

Have you tried any of the Butter London Lippy-s? What do you think of them? Which one would you want to try most?  What do you think of the lacquer?

I hope you all entered my giveaway! If not, get on it ;-)

Deborah Lippmann: Across the Universe

Happy Monday my friends. I know you've all seen this polish before but I just got it so I wanted to share. I have been lusting after Deborah Lippmann's Across the Universe since it came out and I finally bit the bullet and purchased a bottle for myself.

Across the Universe  is a navy blue sheer jelly with tons of blue and green hex glitter.  To my eye it also has some tiny blue glitter throughout.

I used three coats for the opacity shown but I feel like I might have benefited from a forth. The base is pretty sheer so unless you are really careful you'll get some bald spots.  I find that Deb Lippmann is the queen of the chunky glitter.  Her polishes are the only polishes with hex glitter that apply well for me. This is packed with glitter so there's no need to worry about it showing up on your nail.  (Looking at you Orly Androgynie).

What is not to love about this color? I am not sure it looks as amazing on me as it does on others but I still enjoy it. It's got such a pretty depth to it and in some lighting it's just mesmerizing. It reminds me of mermaid scales or something.

So do you love this one? Did you purchase one as well? I am happy with this purchase and I see  myself wearing this over and over!

Deborah Lippmann: I Know What Boys Like

TGIF everyone! Today I have a gorgeous color from Deborah Lippmann to share with you! This is I Know What Boys Like and it's a beautiful periwinkle creme.  I am in love with this color, it's so pretty!!!

I know Lippmann Collection polishes are a splurge at $16 for the cremes but let me tell you, they are worth every penny. This color is so gorgeous and the formula is perfection. It has a great shiny finish and just feels so smooth. I had no issues with application at all. The first coat was not opaque at all, it wasn't streaky but it did seem uneven. The second coat totally perfected the finish though and it was perfect smooth opacity. I just adore Lippmann polishes.

Gorgeous right? Love it!!

Urban Decay Naked Palette Review

I know you have all seen and fallen in love with the Urban Decay Naked Palette but I wanted to do a review of my own because this product really deserves all the hype it's generating.

Shortly after I got my new job the coveted Naked Palette came back into stock on Sephora so I decided to treat myself and I am so happy I did. This palette comes with 12 full sized (just different shaped) eye shadows, a double sided 24/7 Eye Pencil and (not pictured) a mini bottle of the iconic Primer Potion.  Since there have been problems keeping this item stocked it appears Urban Decay has replaced the eye pencil with an eyeshadow brush, which in my opinion is slightly less desirable but still a great deal. I paid $44 for this and I think it's worth every penny.

The Eyes Shadows:

The eye shadows are all full sized and neutral with a slight edge. Every single shade, in my opinion, is wearable. I love that there are some matte shades included in the set because sometimes mattes are left out. Do I wish there were more mattes? Sure, I guess, but I am not missing them.  The frosty colors are excellent and I don't experience much, or really any,  fallout.

The texture of these eye shadows is absolutely spectacular. They are highly pigmented, go on smoothly and blend like a dream. I think they are very high quality. I don't find a single shade in the palette to be chalky which is a huge plus. Sometimes MAC special edition palettes are a little sub-par compared to their permanent line but these are fabulous.

The shade Naked is reminiscent of MAC's Soft Brown it's perfect for blending out colors in the crease. It's probably one of my favorites in the palette simply because I can use it in practically every look. Half Baked and Sidecar are two of my other favorites, they're stunning metallic shadows. I really love every color in this set. I can't pick a favorite.

The Primer Potion:

Not much to say, we all know how fantastic this stuff is. Applied as a base this makes shadows more vibrant and last longer though out the day banishing creasing. My only complaint? Compared to other bases, like Too Faced Shadow Insurance, UDPP makes it slightly difficult to blend.  I still think it's a phenomenal product and I am happy they threw in a mini with this palette.

The Eye Liners:

I bought the palette before they changed the liner to a brush so I have a double sided 24/7 eyeliner pencil in Zero (black) and Whiskey (brown).  These are great quality eyeliner pencils. They're so soft and glide on so easily.  They dry fast so if you want to smudge you need to work fast. These suckers stay put! I love that! They perform well in the waterline as well well. Nothing will stay put in my watery eyes but this performed really nicely compared to other liners.

Packaging:
The packaging is the one thing I don't love about this palette. It's mostly cardboard.  The outside is suede which feels luxe but gets dirty fast and frankly, isn't very durable.  The inside has a mirror which is nice and a compartment for the liner so it's nice for travel. I'd be careful traveling though because like I said it's cardboard.

The one thing that drives me bonkers about the packaging is that the dang thing just won't stay open. It always wants to flop over and close on me. It's irritating. I would have liked to see some more durable, more practical packaging on this.

Overall:
Overall I'd give this palette an A.  It's a fantastic value and all of the makeup is very high quality. I took off a few points because the packaging really doesn't do it for me but overall I am really satisfied with this palette and highly recommend it for those of you who like neutral colors with some shimmer. I could personally only use this palette for a long time without getting bored.  I think the only people who might not like this are those who steer clear of frosts.

Share your thoughts on this palette with me. I'd love to hear what you think about it. Do you think it's worth the hype?

Deborah Lippmann: All that Jazz Trio

Hello everyone! Sorry there was no Monday post, I spent the day with friends. I got to meet my friend's new baby! Since I didn't have anything prepared there was no time for a post, but don't despair, this post will be a doozy!

Today I want to share the colors of the All that Jazz trio from Deborah Lippmann. The three colors contained in the trio are really fun. So on to the reviews.

Let's start with my favorite: Lady Sings the Blues. This color is stunning I just love it. Deborah Lippmann calls it a "silver sparkled blue" which is accurate to me. It's a cross between a royal blue and a navy blue with tons of silver micro and hex glitter. The color is just beautiful, it's so fun to just stare at my nails when I am wearing it.

The formula is nice. Sometimes the hex glitter polishes are difficult to work with, the hex glitter never wants to go onto the nail, but I didn't have any trouble with this one really at all, which is great. You'll see tons of the hex glitter in the photos and I like how it's randomly placed. This is by far my favorite of the three polishes.

Gorgeous right? I just adore it! On to the others:

Razzle Dazzle is described as "a darkened raspberry sizzle". It is packed with raspberry glitter. The shade is interesting because while it is a true raspberry color it is "darkened" which is funny because the base color is not black but sometimes when you look at it it appears to be. I like the look of this one, however raspberry colors NEVER work on me. I always get some excited for them but the color on my skin tone just falls flat. (See Heli-Yum).

That said the formula is nice. I required 3 coats for true opacity but the color built up nicely and the darkening was a nice quality.

Though the color doesn't look that great on my skin I think a ton of people will love this one, especially for the fall holidays. It's rich and interesting and totally will work for Thanksgiving and Christmas alike. It reminds me of cranberry.

Some Enchanted Evening was my least favorite of the three on its own because it's so sheer), however I do think it'd make a great glittery topcoat.

The company calls it "a pink salmon shimmer" and it's pink glitter with pink hex glitter suspended in an essentially clear base. Like I said I think this color would be best as a topcoat. Maybe on top of another pink or a black, definitely a black!

Formula was sheer, this is three coats but as you can see it's very translucent. I wouldn't wear this one alone but maybe someone else would.

Overall I do like this trio. Lady Sings the Blues is my standout. If I had to purchase just one polish that would absolutely be it. This set retails for $40 and would make an excellent gift for a fellow lacquer junkie. $40 may seem steep but it's essentially about a $54 value so it will save you a little off the price of three single bottles. It comes in a gorgeous silver box, perfect for holiday gift giving.

Deborah Lippmann Emmy Nails

It's always fun to see what colors celebs are rocking on the red carpet and this year at the Emmy awards celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippman was responsible for two of the hottest manicures on the red carpet.

Presenter January Jones wore Dark Side Of The Moon, an absolutely aubergine shade, in an almond shape. “To achieve the almond nail, file away the sides to create a tapered shape—just like an almond,” Lippmann instructs. “The idea is to create an elegant, elongated shape, not a severe point.”

Lea Michele wore one of Deborah’s newest shades from the All That Jazz set called Lady Sings The Blues, a silver-sparkled navy blue.

Both of these colors are simply gorgeous. I cannot wait to get my hands on and Lady Sings the Blues and Darkside of the Moon is the perfect color for fall.
