Dermelect: Buzz-Worthy

Hi all! Thanks for checking in today! I hope you're doing well! Today I'm going to  share a bright color that was sent to me for consideration by the brand Dermelect.  This is Buzz-Worthy which is a SUPER bright, highlighter yellow.

I will be honest and tell you that the color doesn't do much for me. I just don't typically wear yellows at all. This is a bright highlighter neon yellow. Even though it is neon it doesn't have too much white in the base so it doesn't go on matte like some neon colors do. I do appreciate that! I am just not someone who gravitates towards these colors.
Dermelect makes a quality lacquer though, so if I look at this without regard to the color (which there's nothing wrong with, it's just not my cup of tea), it's a great polish. I only needed two coats for opacity, which is excellent for a color of this nature. Some yellows are a nightmare, something to do with the yellow pigments, but this is a piece of cake to apply. I had no streaking, no balding and no problems whatsoever.

Dermelect makes some great polishes, this color just isn't for me. Dermelect polishes are peptide infused, DBP, Toluene & Formaldehyde free, and cruelty free. They strengthen your nails and are long lasting!  They retail for $14 each.

What are your favorite Dermelect colors? Do you like these types of yellows?

Prettily Inspired Polish (Etsy Store) Review

Hi everyone! Thanks for stopping by the blog today. I have three polishes to show you from an Etsy seller named Chelsea. Chelsea's store is called Prettily Inspired Polish and she hand mixes all of her 3-Free polishes in small batches. She's got an every changing variety of unique and fun, mostly glitter polishes.

Up first is Kiss me at Midnight. This polish is a gold and blue micro-glitter along with small gold hex glitter and larger gunmetal hex glitter suspended in a sheer dark blue/green base. Boy is that a tough one to describe! It's got a lot going on.

The jelly base on this one is super sheer but tinted that dark green/blue, almost grey color. You won't be able to build it up to a truly opaque state but it's more of a topper glitter anyway. The jelly base provides a high shine so it will look good over most any color you can think of. I put it on my bare nails for the swatch and over black on my ring finger to show you some variety.

Next up is Starlet which Chelsea describes as containing "micro gold hex, small matte pink square, matte pink stars, medium red hex, large iridescent clear hex, and ultra-fine iridescent white glitters" in a bight pink jelly base.

This one is really interesting and has a lot going on. I love the little pink star glitter particles. This is something really fun to throw on for Valentine's Day. This is two coats:

Last, but certianly not least is my favorite of the bunch and to me, the most unique: Lettuce Leaf. Chelsea describes Lettuce Leaf as containing "micro purple, small matte neon yellow hex, matte white square, medium matte neon green hex, and holo green square glitters in a clear base." I actually don't think this base is clear though. It's ever so slightly tinted highlighter yellow/neon green. I think the photo clearly shows that.  This is two coats:

I had no issues applying any of the polishes. Formula was consistent across the board, not too thick, not too thin. I found the larger glitter particles in all three of the polsihes to go on abundantly and evenly. Sometimes larger glitter sinks to the bottom of polishes, that did not happen with any of these three.

Chelsea sells these, and more, in her Etsy shop and a 15ml bottle will run you $9.95 USD which is a pretty standard indie rate. Be sure to stop by her Facebook page for more photos and occasional special offers. I really like all three of these polishes. I can tell Chelsea puts a lot of thought into creating these polishes. It's nice to see something unique on the market and it's fun to support small businesses.

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink: Lime Crime: Parfait Day

PhotobucketHi everyone! It's another Pink Wednesday and today I have a brand new polish to share with you all. This is Parfait Day by Lime Crime. Lime Crime just started making polish and was kind enough to send me some to try. This is the first one I pulled out to try and I have to say, I'm impressed.  I haven't tried anything else from Lime Crime but have seen them featured on many YouTube channels I watch.

Parfait Day is a strawberry milkshake pink creme. It's super pigmented and was opaque in just two coats. The color is really bright, almost neon but has enough white in the base to stay more like a hot pink pastel. Sometimes polishes this pigmented are trouble to apply, but I didn't feel like this one was difficult to apply at all. I was able to achieve full and even opacity with just two coats.  It was not chalky at all but needs a topcoat for sure or can look slightly dull, and with a color like this you don't want dull. It doesn't dull out the same way a neon would but it's not glossy like some polishes.

I really like this one though I am not sure this color works for me. I don't think I pull off these sorts of pinks well.  I think it might make a really nice pedicure color.

This polish, along with several other colors I will feature shortly, is available on the Lime Crime website for $5.99 each which is super affordable! The bottles are slightly smaller than the average polish but I still think that $5.99 is a great bargain. These come packaged in really cute boxes too, which is a plus. And come on, who doesn't adore the unicorn on the bottle?

What do you think of Parfait Day? Have you checked out Lime Crime's other polishes? Which one would you most like to try?!

Pixi Nail Color (Vivid Coral, Very Violet and Paradise Pink)

Hi everyone! Today I have some summer neons to share with you from Pixi. First up is Vivid Coral which drove my camera INSANE. It's so vibrant and neon I just couldn't get a photo that didn't look glowy.  I needed three coats for the opacity shown and I did still have a bit of VNL peeking through, almost in the way that a jelly can sometimes be.  The photos show the color with a shiny top coat (Seche Vite) because if you don't add a top coat to this it dries very matte.  Often neon colors will dry matte so this is nothing too out of the ordinary.  I liked this color a lot and wish my camera didn't have a panic attack when I photographed it.  Be careful with application on this one because it dries quickly and can be streaky if you don't pay attentionl. Adding a good top coat should even streaks out though.

Next up is Very Violet which also made my camera spaz out. In real life this is just a bit darker.   It too dries matte without a top coat and requires three coats for acceptable opacity. It's a fun color!

Last up is Paradise Pink which is a really fun neon baby pink. It's hot pink, but baby pink at the same time. I love it. It's a really nice summer pedicure color in my opinion.  Same application as above except I did only need two coats for opacity on this one, it's very pigmented.  Careful application will minimize streaking and don't forget the high shine top coat to avoid the matte look.

This was my first experience with Pixi polishes and overall I am satisfied but not dying to run out and purchase the whole line.  Neons are always a bit tricky so perhaps regular cremes or shimmers in the line will apply a bit easier. In terms of comparing these to other neons though they performed the way I would have expected them to perform.  Most neons I have used dry quickly with a matte finish and most require more than two coats to appear opaque, this is nothing new with the neon look.

You can find Pixi at Target stores for $8.00. These bottles are 1/2 the size of most nail polish bottles so it's quite pricey for the size.  Pixi is considered a premium brand though so that explains the price.   If I ever see a unique color I'll pick one up but like I said above I won't rush out to collect them all.

Have you tried Pixi polishes? What has been your experience.

Sensationail Update:

Yesterday was day two with my Scarlet Red Sensationail manicure and so far so good. Looking fresh and super shiny! I used Badger Cuticle oil last night to keep my cuticles in shape.  I am 1/2 way through day three right now and I am still looking freshly manicured.  Stay tuned for further updates on the manicure though out the next week or two.

Nail-Venturous: Floam

Happy Monday my friends. I hope you all had a nice weekend. I had a great one but like always it went by too fast for my liking.

Today I have a special fun polish to share with you. This is a polish that many bloggers and nail lacquer addicts covet and I was lucky enough to have a fantastic friend purchase one for me last time it was in stock. Shout out to the lovely Alexis for picking this up for me and shipping it to me all the way from Canada. You rock!!!

So what polish you ask? Well it's FLOAM! Remember Floam from your childhood? I do! That stuff was everywhere, and they still make it! This fabulous polish from Nail-Venturous captures all of those Floam memories in a nail polish, very cool and nostalgic! I love the whimsical uniqueness of this polish.

The polish itself is a matte neon blue and yellow-green fine glitter in a clear base. I used a topcoat for my photos, which is why it has a glossy appearance, but without the top coat this would dry matte. I used three coats and achieved full opacity which is wonderful for a glitter that is suspended in a clear base. This thing is packed with glitter. The final result is very reminiscent of its namesake, Floam, and I just think it's so much fun.

You can purchase this, whenever it is in stock, at NinjaPolish.com for $9.00 USD. This color is tough to get you hands on so it will require some stalking to make it yours. I think it's worth it though because this polish is unique and so much fun for those of us who grew up in the 1990s.

Thanks again to Alexis for stalking this and thinking of me when you bought it. I would never have been able to try it out if you didn't hook me up!

Have you tried Floam? What do you think of it? Worth the hype? Will you be stalking it!?

Disclaimer: A wonderful friend of mine sent me this as a gift :-) Thanks Alexis!

Zoya: Arizona

Hello beautiful people! Thanks for stopping by and reading the blog today! I hope you're all having a nice week. Today I have a color to show you from Zoya's Beach collection.  This is Arizona which is an orange sherbert creme polish.  This is a pretty hot color for this year and I dig it.  It's bright and fun, it borders on neon on me but it looks cool!

The formula of this one is okay, but not the best. It's super pigmented which made it really thick and a little tough to apply.  The end result was fine, no issues with balding or anything, just took some care to put on. I used two coats for the opacity shown in the photos.

Have you tried this one? What do you think?

You can purchase Zoya online.  They have a new program called share the love, where you can earn points for referring friends.  This is my referral link. You do not have to use it if you do not want to. I do not want to pressure anyone to use it.  I have reviewed many Zoya products and love most of them so I am comfortable recommending them.  I just want to be upfront that that is a share the love link, no hiding the ball here on my blog!

Note on comments: I still don't know what to do with my comments. You cannot see the link to comment under the posts. I only see it when I click on each individual post.  If you're on the main page and search comments with Ctrl+F then you can find it, it's like it's off to the side of the post, I don't get it. Any suggestions?

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink: Julep Nail Vernis: Mandy

It's another beautiful Pink Wednesday and today I have a color from Julep Nail Vernis called Mandy. Mandy is a vibrant coral toned hot pink, perfect for summer! The color is slightly more coral in real life than it appears in the photos. It's a really fun, almost neon shade.

I found the formula to be easy to work with and I had full opacity with just two coats.  I had no issues with streaking or balding and the formula was a nice consistency, not too thick and not too thin.  This is my first experience with the brand. I'd actually never heard of it until they contacted me and I am happy I got to try it. I think it's a great product.

Julep Nail Vernis is 3 free and retails for $14 a bottle and $1 from every bottle goes to charity.  They're also offering free shipping with any order this summer. I love free shipping! The price is sort of hefty, considering the size of the bottle. These are a little more than 1/2 the size of the standard nail polish, they are .27 fl. ounces. Most polishes are .50 fluid oz. So considering the size they're very expensive.   They seem to have a fantastic color range, with a shade for everyone, so if you want to splurge you'll find something you like.

Serena Williams Serves Up Four New Shades for OPI Glam Slam! Collection

OPI captures Serena Williams’ winning spirit with four additions to the Glam Slam! collection, including two new shades of the fashionable, must-have Shatter –Red and White.  Launching in conjunction with the French Open, Glam Slam! Francecelebrates with two duo-packs for four unbeatable looks.

The first Lacquer set includes Spark de Triomphe (a monumentally marvelous silver glitter), paired with White Shatter. Once applied over completely dried Nail Lacquer, Shatter begins to crackle, leaving behind a two-texture pattern on each nail. The second Lacquer set features Rally Pretty Pink (rise to the occasion with this shimmering sunset-pink), paired with Red Shatter.

“We are very excited to continue working with tennis superstar Serena Williams to launch the next Glam Slam! shades,” said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, OPI Executive VP & Artistic Director. “France is a country with a rich history in fashion and setting trends. “Whether I’m on or off the court, style is important,” explains Serena Williams. “In addition to watching the runways for the latest trends, I think it’s important to add my own unique elements. With the new White and Red Shatter, I can customize my nails for a high-fashion take on the classically elegant silver and sunset shades in the Glam Slam! France collection.”

Serena Williams has received the World Number One in singles ranking by the Women’s Tennis Association on five separate occasions, along with being listed as sixth on the all-time greatest champions list.  Additionally, she has won two Olympic gold medals in women’s doubles and has earned 27 Grand Slam titles to date. Serena is the most recent player to have held all four Grand Slam singles titles simultaneously and only the fifth woman in history to do so.

New shades in the Glam Slam! collection will be introduced to coincide with each of the four major tournaments, beginning with the Australian Open in January 2011, followed by launches in May 2011 for the French Open, June 2011 for Wimbledon and August 2011 for the US Open. OPI Launches Bestselling Shatter Coat in Three Blue-Hued Shades

OPI expands its Shatter line with the addition of three new trendsetting shades: BlueNavy and Turquoise.
