OPI: Sprung

Hi everyone! I hope you're all having a great weekend. I haven't been feeling well since Thursday! That stinks! It's been bone achingly cold here as well so that is not helping one bit! I cannot wait for summer!

Today I want to show you one of the Mariah Carey colors from OPI. This one is called Sprung and it's an absolutely gorgeous shimmering copper. It's super complex and unique. The copper is almost a mauve-y copper. It's strange, but in a good way!  I don't have anything like this one at all in my collection. I love the way it looks when the light hits it, which I think you can see pretty well in the photos. It's stunning.

Now this came out recently so it's really considered a spring nail polish. I beg to differ. This is really a fall/winter color in my book. Now I don't always play by the rules there so it's no big deal but it's absolutely more suited for fall/winter than spring if you ask me.

I used two coats for the opacity shown below but I think you should do three if you really want it to be completely opaque. It's a wee bit sheer with just two coats so take your time and do the three, you'll get a nicer result. This one does not show brush strokes at all though so there's no need to worry about those.

Beautiful, no? I love it! I am not a fan, at all, of Mariah, but this sure is one pretty polish! What do you think?

Zoya: Julie

Good morning beautiful readers. I hope you're all doing well!

Today I have a polish from Zoya's Lovely Collection, this one is called Julie (finally, a normal name!). This is a soft wisteria purple metallic. It's actually pretty unique in my collection in terms of color.  I think what makes it so different from the 1000 other purples I own is that metallic element. It's quite pretty, almost icy looking. In bright sunlight that metallic sheen is barely visible but in interior lighting it's more prominent.

I used two coats for the opacity shown but I think this one needs three. I think you'll be able to see from the photos that two just doesn't cut it. There's a bit of VNL with two and some balding. Go with three and I think you'll do just fine with this one.

So what do you think of Julie

Random thoughts for the day:
  • It's soooo cold out in Connecticut I can't take it.
  • I am excited for dinner tonight as I have Picadillo from Skinny Taste simmering in the crock pot. Have you checked out Skinny Taste? That blog is amazing. Everything I have made has been just wonderful.
  • Speaking of food blogs, a friend of mine, Kristen, just started one. Check it out at www.smashed-garlic.com she's really talented at both cooking and writing. You won't be disappointed.

Pink Wednesday: Zoya: Gie Gie or is it Gei Gei?!

Today is Wednesday and On Wednesdays We Wear Pink. . .

Well, this is interesting. I was all set to go with this blog post and then I realized that the name of this polish on Zoya's website is spelled differently than it is spelled on my bottle. So I don't know what the name of this one really is?! I am going to go with what is on my bottle because the photos have already been labeled accordingly but I think I may have a misprinted bottle.  How odd!!!

So I am showing you Zoya's Gie Gie today, which is how it's spelled on my bottle, see the photo on the left... but I think this is really Zoya's Gei Gei I don't know, because as I have said in the past, Zoya names their polishes weird ass names that I have never heard of... so this is either called one or the other, does it even really matter?

Zoya calls this a cherry blossom pink metallic. It's a baby pink color with tons of microshimmer inside, the shimmer looks to me like it's silver or very very very pale pink.  This color would be a nice color to wear to a conservative workplace or a job interview. It's subtle but interesting.

I used two coats which provided full opacity. Well, almost full. Now that I look at the photos there may be some VNL on the middle finger, but it's hardly noticeable so I think two will do it. This polish has a texture to it but it didn't make application any more difficult than any other polish.

What do you think of this one? How about that name confusion? Which is right?!

Zoya: Piaf and Jacqueline (Lovely Collection Spring 2013)

Today I have two colors from the Zoya Lovely Collection for Spring 2013. But first I must vent:

Now, I have said it before, but find myself saying it a lot more lately, COME ON ZOYA, what is with these names?! Seriously, I am all for unique, but until you have Gina, which is relatively common, can you spare us the PIAF? Seriously, no offense if it's your name but I have never even heard it before. Weird!!! I looked up Piaf and apparently it is French and means "sparrow" and is a famous French singer.

So here she is, Piaf. Piaf is a metallic spring yellow. At first I thought it was ugly but now, looking at my photos of it, I actually sort of like it. It's a really pretty color for spring, it's light and subtle. This reminds me of a little chick at Easter time.

The formula on this is a bit strange. Zoya calls it a metallic but to me, while it looks slightly metallic, it's more just textured. It's like it's got a ton of microshimmers embedded in the color. I think it makes for a pretty cool look.

The formula on this one is on the thick side. It goes on without problems though. I only needed two coats for full opacity, which is always a plus in my book. It dries really really fast, not that it matters when you use Seche Vite, but it's something to be mindful of when applying so it does not goop up on you.

Next up is Jacqueline (a real name!!). This is a really nice, fully opaque creme nude. I love this one!!! I am a sucker for cremes, and nudes, so it's only natural I'd love this one.

This is a really nice and flattering nude, it's a beige/putty colored nude that I think works on a variety of skin tones. It's got no real pink undertones so it doesn't give us pale/olive toned girls lobster hands. This is the perfect wear to work color if you're in a highly conservative office environment.

The formula on this is a dream. I love it. It's the perfect creme consistency. I love cremes that are super shiny and this one fits the bill for me. I only needed two coats for opacity. The first coat was a bit streaky, but as you can see the second just made it perfect, and these photos are without the help of a topcoat so you can see it really applied just beautifully.

So what do you think of these two? I am shocked by how much Piaf grew on me, well, not the name LOL. I love Jacqueline and I think she'll be in my normal rotation of polishes for sure.

Happy New Year to everyone around the World! I hope 2013 is a fantastic year for all of you. I hope to make the blog even better and more fun for all, stay tuned and thanks for making 2012 a great year. Love you all !

Zoya: Ziv (Ornate Collection)

What's up people!? How was your weekend? Mine was relaxing, we didn't do much. Do any of you watch The Walking DeadHubby and I love that show! This week's episode was so good!! Let me know if you watch it but please, no spoilers for my readers who recorded it!

Today I have another polish from the Zoya's Ornate Collection. This is Ziv, which, to my eye, is a rich warm gold with tiny bronze particles in it. This is a unique gold in my collection because of the bronze particles, they are sort of like flake glitter but smaller.   The finish on this polish is similar to OPI's Warm and Fozzie and Designer... De Better! So it's not quite a glitter, not really a frost, not a true shimmer, not only metallic, just awesome! I think this color is perfect for fall and also the upcoming holiday season, it's so rich and festive.

I used two coats for the opacity shown which was adequate. I had no VNL, no streaking and no brush strokes.

I've said it before and I will say it again, these names!!! Come on! No Gina but we have Ziv. Just sayin'.

What do you think of this baby? I love it. The whole Ornate Collection has really captured my heart. Stay tuned for more!

OPI: Danke-Shiny Red

Hi everyone! I hope your week is going better than mine. But what better to brighten the day then a nice pretty nail polish!

Today  I have Danke-Shiny Red from the OPI Germany collection. This is a rich ruby red frost/metallic shade. It's actually really pretty for fall. I think it'd look nice on a variety of skin tones because it doesn't pull too yellow based or two red based, at least to my eye.

I am not typically a huge fan of this finish but this one applied nicely and I had no issues with streaking at all!

What do you think of this fall red?

Zoya: Fei Fei (Diva Collection)

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Mine was great but went by too fast! Yesterday I bought a new watch. I have been wanting one for a while but have been too cheap to purchase it.  I love the Rose Gold Michael Kors watch that is all the rage right now but the $250.00 price tag was a bit hard to swallow for someone who never wears a watch. I wanted the look but I didn't want to pay the price, just in case I did not enjoy wearing a watch everyday. So I went shopping. I ended up at Macy's and saw that Fossil has a watch nearly identical to the Kors watch I was eyeing but 1/2 the price. SCORE! I love it!

Do you like it?

On to the polish... Today I want to show you a color from Zoya's fall collection.  This is from the Diva portion of the collection and it's called Fei Fei. Alright, now here's a quick rant about Zoya's names: My name is Gina. There is no Gina nail polish. Zoya names it's polishes with women's names.  So there's no Gina but there's a Fei Fei? Wow!

Anyway, this polish is STUNNING. It's simply my favorite from the collection.  Zoya calls it a "magic blue foil sparkle metallic". It's a deep blue packed with tons of sparkle that are so many different colors I can't even make them out.  It's stunning in the sunlight and I wish my photos captured just how insanely beautiful and unique this one is. Trust me, you need this one. It's amazing.

I used three coats because it is on the sheer side but I had no issues with application.

Is this gorgeous or what? My photos do not do it justice but I promise it's worth adding to your collection. I have nothing like it.
