OPI: A Butterfly Moment

Hello hello! I hope you're all having a lovely day! Thanks for taking the time to check in and see what I have on my nails! Today I am going to show you a polish I received for consideration from the Mariah Carey collection that came out a while back.

This is A Butterfly Moment, what a totally Mariah name! I am not sure the name can get more Mariah than that! LOL. This is a really subtle pink/tan color with some beautiful gold microshimmer.  This is such a pretty neutral, work appropriate, conservative but fun polish. I like it a lot more than I thought I would.  I think it's extremely versatile; it's pink but it's nude, it's gold, but it's not... The gold microshimmer makes it for me. Without it it would be super boring but with it, it's just lovely. The gold adds a warmth that will look awesome with darker skin tones or if you're rocking a summer glow.   This is like a shimmering sands look. It's Gina approved.

The formula is ok, but beware, it can be streaky. Take your time applying this one to avoid brush strokes. It's on the frosty side so you know how those can be. Otherwise, I used two coats for full opacity and I think it looks great!

So, do you dig it? I want to know what you think of this one! Let me know in the comments below! Have a beautiful day!

OPI: Glints of Glinda

Hello my friends. Happy Monday. I hope you all had a nice weekend. Mine was great! We got to spend time with our nephew/Godson PJ, his new brother and sister, and of course my brother in-law and sister in-law. Saturday was a great family day! On to the polish...

Today I want to show you a sheer nude. This is Glints of Glinda from OPI's Oz The Great and Powerful collection. This was provided to me by PR for consideration. I am going to cut right to the chase, I don't like this one. It just does not work for me. It's far too yellow in tone and makes my nails look discolored.

I used two coats for the opacity shown and like I mentioned above, this is sheer. It's meant to be and I don't think you'd get this opaque no matter how many coats you did. The formula is nice and there's no issue with streaking or balding. It has a nice high shine, it's just the color that doesn't work for me.

I look at this one like a glaze, just a skim coat of "color" to shine up the nails. I just wish the coloring wasn't so yellow on this one. Oh well.

What do you think of Glints of Glinda? Do  you think the yellow tone would work for you?

I wanted to share a professional photo of my niece and nephew. My friend Bambi, of Everlasting Beauty Photography took some amazing new born photos of the twins.  This is my favorite one, just look at the smile on Anthony's face!!!! Take a look at Anthony and Aria:

Have a great week everyone!

OPI: My Vampire is Buff

Hello beautiful people! Thanks for stopping by today! Today I have a fun nude to share with you from OPI. I love nudes, especially nude cremes, it's nice to wear a clean neutral color every so often.

This is My Vampire is Buff and it's a bone/ivory creme. It's a really neutral nude, not too pink toned, not too yellow toned. I have a feeling many skin tones will be able to pull this one off. I love when a polish is so universal!

The formula is okay but it's on the thin side. I used two coats for the opacity shown but it really does require three. I think you'll be able to see why from the photos: it looks okay in my photos but there's a bit of visible balding and streaking. Next time I will just do three coats and then I think it will be perfect.

What do you think of this nude? Do you NEED another nude? I personally can never have enough nudes.

Random Thoughts:
  • Seriously, the snow needs to go away!
  • Who's been watching The Walking Dead? I enjoyed this week's episode, even though we didn't see all characters, someone I have been dying to see showed up! What a great episode and the ending was great - it really showed how people have changed over time.
  • I cannot wait to see Oz: The Great and Powerful. I love all things Oz related, I hope this does not dissappoint!

Pink Wednesday: Zoya: Gie Gie or is it Gei Gei?!

Today is Wednesday and On Wednesdays We Wear Pink. . .

Well, this is interesting. I was all set to go with this blog post and then I realized that the name of this polish on Zoya's website is spelled differently than it is spelled on my bottle. So I don't know what the name of this one really is?! I am going to go with what is on my bottle because the photos have already been labeled accordingly but I think I may have a misprinted bottle.  How odd!!!

So I am showing you Zoya's Gie Gie today, which is how it's spelled on my bottle, see the photo on the left... but I think this is really Zoya's Gei Gei I don't know, because as I have said in the past, Zoya names their polishes weird ass names that I have never heard of... so this is either called one or the other, does it even really matter?

Zoya calls this a cherry blossom pink metallic. It's a baby pink color with tons of microshimmer inside, the shimmer looks to me like it's silver or very very very pale pink.  This color would be a nice color to wear to a conservative workplace or a job interview. It's subtle but interesting.

I used two coats which provided full opacity. Well, almost full. Now that I look at the photos there may be some VNL on the middle finger, but it's hardly noticeable so I think two will do it. This polish has a texture to it but it didn't make application any more difficult than any other polish.

What do you think of this one? How about that name confusion? Which is right?!

Jesse's Girl Cosmetics: Julie G Collection in Chic Cipro

Hi everyone! It's Monday again! I swear even the pets dread Mondays. I hope you all had a nice weekend. Today I have a color to share from the Julie G Collection by Jesse's Girl Cosmetics. If you don't know who JulieG is, she's a makeup guru on YouTube with tons of fans. Jesse's Girl has teamed up with her to create a line of polishes with her name. Very cool! I watch her videos all the time and she seems like a genuinely nice girl. I am so happy to see all of the success she has achieved with her videos. Can you believe some of these makeup gurus on youtube do this for a living? I wish I could make that my job! But I digress...

This is Chic Cipro which is an odd name. I looked up "cipro" but could not find any meaning beyond prescription medication, LOL, anyone know what it means? *EDIT: SEE BELOW FOR WHAT IT MEANS!  It's a peachy nude cream color that's sort of ugly chic if you ask me. I love these kind of colors. Sometimes peachy colors do not work with my skin tone but this one is really pretty.

I used two coats for the opacity shown but may have been better off with a third looking at the photos now. However, I think that was just my application. I need to be more careful sometimes. The formula was nice and super shiny, which you know I love.

Have you tried any of the Julie G polishes? I have only seen Jesse's Girl, and this collection, at select Rite Aid stores near me, not all of them. So this is a little tough to come by. Jesse's Girl does make great cosmetics though so check them out if you do have access. They are affordable and great quality, in my opinion.

EDIT: I heard from the PR representative who from Jesse's Girl who explained what Cipro meant. I think this information is really cool and really speaks to the creativity behind the line. I am so glad I wrote that I was wondering. Very cool!
"[...]saw that you were wondering what “Cipro” meant, and it’s actually the subway stop in Italy that Julie would go to everyday when she was studying abroad in Italy. What’s so cool about the JulieG Collection is that Julie not only helps design the colors, but then gives them names that go along with the shade, but also ones that relate to special memories or experiences from her life!"

Pretty & Polished: It Gets Better and Mannequin Hands

Hello everyone! So sorry I haven't posted in a while. Sometimes life catches up to me and I get lazy LOL. No excuses. I apologize!

Today I want to feature two polishes from the indie brand Pretty & Polished. Pretty & Polished is an Etsy store run by the lovely Chels Marie. I love supporting small businesses and this is a great one to check out if you're into nail polish, especially unique and fun glitters. I am going to show you two today, but I have a few more to swatch for the future as well.

First up is the gorgeous It Gets Better. Here's a blurb from Chels' store about the inspiration behind this color which I think is worth reading if you have the chance:

PhotobucketThis polish was made for the "It Gets Better Project". The It Gets Better Project was created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach – if they can just get through their teen years. The It Gets Better Project wants to remind teenagers in the LGBT community that they are not alone — and it WILL get better.I created this polish for all of the people I have lost to bullying. I understand not everyone agrees with my views on human rights and that is ok. I made this polish so that I could donate 50% of the profits to an organization that I appreciate. The It Gets Better pledge: "Everyone deserves to be respected for who they are. I pledge to spread this message to my friends, family and neighbors. I'll speak up against hate and intolerance whenever I see it, at school and at work. I'll provide hope for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other bullied teens by letting them know that it gets better."
This polish is a mint green crelly (creme/jelly base) packed full of multicolor holo hexes.
Cool right?! You can feel great about supporting this cause and the color is absolutely stunning!

Chels has been working hard on the brands new printed bottles and I think they look fantastic! Take a look for yourself:

Love that color and the bottles are awesome! The photos shown are two coats. I think you can get away with two but you might want to use three since the base is pretty sheer. I love the underlying mint green color, it's just beautiful and squishy looking! Squee!!

Next up is Mannequin Hands a name which all you polish loves will understand and love. This takes the concept of Mannequin Hands and fancies it up a little. Chels describes this color as: "a very light skin tone base and is packed with pastel pink hex glitters." I think one is a great color for work! Below is the old style full sized bottle, I believe Chels is moving away from those and onto the new printed bottles I showed above.  This is two coats.

What do you think of these two beauties? I love them both but It Gets Better is just stunning to me!

Be sure to check out Chels' store on Etsy, I think you'll find tons of unique colors to add to your collections. You can catch up with Chels on Instgram under the name prettyandpolishd too! While you're at it, follow me on there, I'm primandpolishedblog.

Let me know if you have tried Pretty & Polished lacquers and what you think of them!

Essie: Topless & Barefoot

Hello everyone! Happy Monday! I hope you all had a nice weekend and treated your moms' to a great Mothers' Day and Happy Mothers' Day to all of the moms who follow my blog!! I hope your kids spoiled you! I had a nice weekend. On Saturday my husband and I went for a nice long hike then later in the evening we went  for dinner at a local place everyone raves about, it was fantastic. Then yesterday I spent time with my mother for Mothers' Day, it was fun!

Today I have a  nude to share with you that I believe came out last year, though I am just getting around to trying it out. This is Essie's Topless & Barefoot which seems to have become a blogger/youtube guru favorite over the last year.  I love nude polish and this is no exception. I'd consider this one to be Sand Tropez's pinker cousin. It's a warmer beige nude creme and less grey than Sand Tropez

This went on smooth and opaque in just two coats.  I had no issues with streaking or balding and I was happy with application.

What do you think of this one? Need it in your life or just another run of the mill nude?  FYI: I got mine at CVS which seems to have a nice selection of Essie polishes these days.

Office Polish-tics: Raquel's Wild Nails

Hello everyone! Today's my birthday and I walked into this in my office this morning. It put a smile on my face for sure.  My co-workers got me great generous gifts and they didn't have to buy me a thing! I love birthdays!!!!!

Tonight my husband and I are going for dinner at my parents' house, my mom is making chicken parm which is my favorite. She also made a carrot cake from scratch so I am so excited to see how that turned out.

Keeping with the office theme today, here's another edition of Office Polish-tics, where I show you my co-workers' nails. Today I am showing Raquel's nails again because these are so much fun!!!! She said the guy who does her nails said she's boring for always getting regular white tips so she let him go wild, and wild he did!!!! I am digging these fun alternating color/animal print designs.

So what do you think of Racquel's nails!?

Butter London: All Hail the Queen

Good morning my friends. Thanks for baring with me as I sort out the commenting issues on my blog. I have no idea why that one post was not allowing comments. I still can't figure it out. As long as it works going forward I will be happy. I blog so that I can connect with my readers, without comments I can't do that.  I like Disqus, as long as it works! Intense Debate was a bit better, to me, because you all could share links to your latest blog posts. If you know how I can incorporate that into Disqus let me know. I found many amazing blogs that way.

Anyway, today I have a Butter London polish to share with you all. This is All Hail the Queen which at some point I believe was called All Hail McQueen I am assuming that was shortly after Alexander McQueen's untimely death.  This is essentially the base color of Yummy Mummy with some holographic sparkle added in.  The holographic sparkle makes this shade so gorgeous.  It's subtle indoors but outside, in natural lighting, it's fantastic. I almost wish it was a bit more in your face, but then again the subtly makes it more wearable.

I used three coats for the opacity shown, two just did not cut it for me. If you recall, I liked Yummy Mummy but felt that it chipped quicker than average for me.  I found this one wore a bit longer but still wasn't amazing in the staying power department.  I think the reason it may have worn better was because I used Butter London's base and top coat.

I really like the base coat. The one I tried was the Nail Foundation Flawless Base Coat. Which comes in a nice large bottle. It had a great matte finish which I am sure helped the polish to adhere well to the nail. I am a sucker for a good base coat, and this is a good one.

I also used the Hardware P.D. Quick Topcoat which was your average, run of the mill, quick drying top coat.  Similar to Seche Vite, though not quite as thick.  It worked well and did dry quickly, maybe took slightly longer than my beloved Seche, but performed generally the same.  It's 3 Free, which is great for a quick dry top coat, so if you're in the market for something 3-Free then this might work for you.  I love Seche Vite but it does contain Toluene, which concerns many folks.

Butter London polishes can be purchased at ButterLondon.com, Ulta and some other places online.  They are $14 a piece which is a bit hard to swallow so make sure you go for a color you can't dupe elsewhere.

What are your favorite Butter London shades? How do they wear for you? Do you find them worth the price?
