Deborah Lippmann: Across the Universe

Happy Monday my friends. I know you've all seen this polish before but I just got it so I wanted to share. I have been lusting after Deborah Lippmann's Across the Universe since it came out and I finally bit the bullet and purchased a bottle for myself.

Across the Universe  is a navy blue sheer jelly with tons of blue and green hex glitter.  To my eye it also has some tiny blue glitter throughout.

I used three coats for the opacity shown but I feel like I might have benefited from a forth. The base is pretty sheer so unless you are really careful you'll get some bald spots.  I find that Deb Lippmann is the queen of the chunky glitter.  Her polishes are the only polishes with hex glitter that apply well for me. This is packed with glitter so there's no need to worry about it showing up on your nail.  (Looking at you Orly Androgynie).

What is not to love about this color? I am not sure it looks as amazing on me as it does on others but I still enjoy it. It's got such a pretty depth to it and in some lighting it's just mesmerizing. It reminds me of mermaid scales or something.

So do you love this one? Did you purchase one as well? I am happy with this purchase and I see  myself wearing this over and over!

Deborah Lippmann: I Know What Boys Like

TGIF everyone! Today I have a gorgeous color from Deborah Lippmann to share with you! This is I Know What Boys Like and it's a beautiful periwinkle creme.  I am in love with this color, it's so pretty!!!

I know Lippmann Collection polishes are a splurge at $16 for the cremes but let me tell you, they are worth every penny. This color is so gorgeous and the formula is perfection. It has a great shiny finish and just feels so smooth. I had no issues with application at all. The first coat was not opaque at all, it wasn't streaky but it did seem uneven. The second coat totally perfected the finish though and it was perfect smooth opacity. I just adore Lippmann polishes.

Gorgeous right? Love it!!

Thank you all for  becoming followers. I have 800 GFC followers now and I love you all!

What it is: Add a pop of colors to your nails this spring and summer with the hottest most fashionable shades from Deborah Lippmann!

Girls Just Want To Have Fun – A smooth, vintage coral that everyone can wear because it’s bold yet velvety – a sort of carefree, creamy coral.

I Know What Boys Like – A creamy periwinkle that credits to both the 80’s and my clients. Several of my clients have asked for interesting blues. This one is a blend of blue and purple with a creamy finish, which gives it a slightly retro look that is so playful and hip.

Lara’s Theme was created with supermodel Lara Stone is Deborah Lippmann’s newestcelebrity collaboration. It’s a dare to wear shade of hot-hot orange.

Yellow Brick Road, a sheer mellow yellow with a jelly finish. The proof that it wears beautifully on all skin tones: it complements me and Lady GaGa, who wore it first for her “Born This Way” performance at the 2011 Grammy Awards

Happy Birthday to me!!!

Hi everyone! I hope you're all having a great day! Today is my 27th Birthday! So yay! I had a nice day, even though I had to work (welcome to real life).

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. The sun has not really been out here... and when it has appeared i have not been able to swatch!

My birthday manicure included Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday  of course! I love this glitter!  My mom bought this for me for Christmas and I haven't even used it yet! INSANE!!!!!  I love it though it's such a fun glitter. It's suspended in a clear base so it's a topper really.

I used China Glaze's Snow as my base coat. I used two coats of that. Then I topped it with one coat of Happy Birthday.

It's so funny. I got so many compliments on this at work today. Everyone was like "What is that?" "How did you do that?" it was weird! I love how it looks over the white though! I have seen other bloggers do that and I knew I had to!

Deborah Lippmann: I Dreamed You (Golden Globes look) with Some Enchanted Evening

Once again I need to apologize for the lack of well lit swatches. I do believe the photos are color accurate to the conditions so that's why I tell you under what circumstances they were taken.  We've just had snow storm after snow storm here and my camera doesn't perform well indoors. I am working on getting a new one but until then I will do my best with what I have. Sorry!

Today I wanted to share a color hot off the Red Carpet with you.  Anne Hathaway wore this understated beauty by Deborah Lippmann at the Golden Globes earlier this year.  This is I Dreamed You which is  a "starry opalescent pink".  This color is really pretty and perfect for conservative work places.  I think this is a nice low maintenance go to nude color.

It's got a pearly finish to it which makes it glisten a bit.  I was pleasantly surprised with the formula. I thought it would be streaky but it was not at all which is always a relief with pearly finishes.  It's on the sheer side but as you'll see in the photos you can get a decent amount of opacity without pulling your hair out in frustration.  Three coats gave me very little visible nail line which is great.

I decided to add two coats of Some Enchanted Evening to bling it out a bit. I think the color goes perfectly with I Dreamed You.  What do you think?

So are you a fan of this nudish pink? Do you see yourself rocking this? How about the combo?

It's so fun to look at all the manicures on the red carpet and try to figure out how to get the look. Well if you were wondering how to get Jennifer Lawrence's edgy gun metal nails then you're in luck. Please enjoy the following press release from Deborah Lippmann.

Deborah Lippmann is Hollywood’s nail authority, working with the top A-Listers in the business. At this year’s SAG Awards, nominee Jennifer Lawrence stood out in a bold, pink Oscar De La Renta gown.

To complement the stunning ensemble, she donned edgy makeup and polished off her look with Deborah Lippmann’s shade called Hit Me With Your Best Shot, a glistening gun metal lacquer that was created with rocker legend Pat Benetar.

I am a fan of this color for sure. I always love deep dark shades. What do you think?

Get the Golden Globe Looks

Please enjoy the following press release. All info and images were provided by PR.
_______________________

Get the looks from your favorite Hollywood starlettes from The Golden Globes with products from Deborah Lippmann and Amika

Deborah Lippmann has been known to glam up some of the most high profile celebrities. It is no surprise that she polished one of the hottest stars of the season at this years’ Golden Globe Awards.  Nominee Anne Hathaway looked absolutely stunning as she walked the red carpet in a pink Armani Prive gown, fully embellished with sequins and Swarovski crystals selected by celeb stylist Rachel Zoe.

To complement the look, Deborah used a starry opalescent pink called I Dreamed You.  Her nails were topped off with Rachel Zoe’s favorite top coat, Addicted To Speed.

Glee star Heather Morris turned heads at the Golden Globes this year with a classic and elegant look and beautifully styled locks.  Her stylist wanted to create a super simple look that would allow the dress to really shine on its own.

David used Amika hair tools and products to create the look.  Here are the steps he followed:
-         Start with 2 - in -1 Volumizing Spray at the root to give extra lift.
-         To set the curls, start at the nape of the neck and wrap one inch sections of hair around the 19 mm clampless curler.
-         Brushed out the hair to form large waves.
-         Lightly pulled back the hair into a low pony tail with a clear elastic, leaving out the bangs and a small section near the front.
-         Twist the ponytail and pin into the base.
-         Finish the look with the Shine Spray for a gorgeous red carpet ready look.

It's always fun to figure out exactly what is being worn on the red carpet.  I think I really need a nice clampless curling iron!

Deborah Lippmann: All that Jazz Trio

Hello everyone! Sorry there was no Monday post, I spent the day with friends. I got to meet my friend's new baby! Since I didn't have anything prepared there was no time for a post, but don't despair, this post will be a doozy!

Today I want to share the colors of the All that Jazz trio from Deborah Lippmann. The three colors contained in the trio are really fun. So on to the reviews.

Let's start with my favorite: Lady Sings the Blues. This color is stunning I just love it. Deborah Lippmann calls it a "silver sparkled blue" which is accurate to me. It's a cross between a royal blue and a navy blue with tons of silver micro and hex glitter. The color is just beautiful, it's so fun to just stare at my nails when I am wearing it.

The formula is nice. Sometimes the hex glitter polishes are difficult to work with, the hex glitter never wants to go onto the nail, but I didn't have any trouble with this one really at all, which is great. You'll see tons of the hex glitter in the photos and I like how it's randomly placed. This is by far my favorite of the three polishes.

Gorgeous right? I just adore it! On to the others:

Razzle Dazzle is described as "a darkened raspberry sizzle". It is packed with raspberry glitter. The shade is interesting because while it is a true raspberry color it is "darkened" which is funny because the base color is not black but sometimes when you look at it it appears to be. I like the look of this one, however raspberry colors NEVER work on me. I always get some excited for them but the color on my skin tone just falls flat. (See Heli-Yum).

That said the formula is nice. I required 3 coats for true opacity but the color built up nicely and the darkening was a nice quality.

Though the color doesn't look that great on my skin I think a ton of people will love this one, especially for the fall holidays. It's rich and interesting and totally will work for Thanksgiving and Christmas alike. It reminds me of cranberry.

Some Enchanted Evening was my least favorite of the three on its own because it's so sheer), however I do think it'd make a great glittery topcoat.

The company calls it "a pink salmon shimmer" and it's pink glitter with pink hex glitter suspended in an essentially clear base. Like I said I think this color would be best as a topcoat. Maybe on top of another pink or a black, definitely a black!

Formula was sheer, this is three coats but as you can see it's very translucent. I wouldn't wear this one alone but maybe someone else would.

Overall I do like this trio. Lady Sings the Blues is my standout. If I had to purchase just one polish that would absolutely be it. This set retails for $40 and would make an excellent gift for a fellow lacquer junkie. $40 may seem steep but it's essentially about a $54 value so it will save you a little off the price of three single bottles. It comes in a gorgeous silver box, perfect for holiday gift giving.
